This weekend PIMPBOT asked me, "Where is kariokee going to be this year? Any room parties or anything with it going on at Dragon*Con?"

I told him I had no idea.

Does anyone know?

With Dragon*Con coming up, some of you may be traveling in for the con.  If you are flying, and you have diabetes like I do, then this may be timely information for you, or those you know.

*******************
Due to increased security at airports as a result of this morning's thwarted plot to attack UK-US flights, our constituents who are traveling with diabetes supplies, specifically insulin, should be aware of the following:

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is permitting travelers to take insulin on board in their carry-on and checked luggage. Callers can be directed to http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/threat-change.shtm for more information. TSA states:

"NO LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED IN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE. ITEMS MUST BE IN CHECKED BAGGAGE. This includes all beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel and other items of similar consistency.

Exception: Baby formula, breast milk or juice if a baby or small child is traveling; prescription medicine with a name that matches the passengers ticket and insulin and essential other non-prescription medicines "

*** If problems arise, travelers should ask to speak with a TSA supervisor. They may also call the TSA Contact Center at 866-289-9673.

*** If constituents call us to report a problem, please explain that while we cannot resolve issues at the airport at the moment they occur, we would like to hear about the problem so that we can follow up with TSA. Please have them fill out the pre-assistance form and send it in to us.

Travelers with diabetes should take the same measures as they would traveling with insulin and other diabetes supplies at all other times. Insulin, glucagon and all other supplies and medications should be clearly identified and labeled.

General travel recommendations are available on our website at: http://www.diabetes.org/advocacy-and-legalresources/discrimination/public_accommodation/travel.jsp

I gave a healthy mention to DragonCon in my new interview in SCOOP, the comic industry's weekly newsletter while chatting about the upcoming WICKED WEST 2.

Since I haven't had much luck at conroommates.org, I thought I would try here...

I have a room at the Hyatt from Thursday night to Sunday night, and I'm looking for one or two non-smoking females who would like a quiet, non-partying room to sleep and relax in. Or, if someone already has a room and is looking for a quiet, non-smoking female, let me know.

E-mail me at SDMathews(at)aol.com

Thanks. :-)

Hello all!

With all the restrictions on what we can bring on a flight I am thinking of just shipping a lot of my things to Atlanta. Has anyone else ever done this? I will be staying at the Marriott.
Any advice or suggestions?

Thank You!!

My friends have all bailed, and i've had my hotel reservations since February.

I have a room at the Hyatt from Friday nite to Sunday nite with two double beds. One bed, and all of my floor space, is still available.

Best nightly offer for the extra bed gets it.

Floor space will be $20/nite, and we'd prefer people who can stay all weekend, but worst comes to worst, I might take individual nite offers. Drop me a line and let me know what I can do for ya.

PS- I can't promise there won't be porn shot in the room at some point. I am not responsible for what your virgin eyes see. ;) Also, it's a smoking room, but we don't like tobacco. Other stuff's fine.

The SPAT*Cave Contest Information page and entry form is up on the web:

http://fabricationsdc.tripod.com/spat.htm

It has information for both contestants and audience. I'm going to repeat these two gems here, though, because they're important:

No one under the age of 18 will be admitted. All audience members will be required to present State or Federal Picture Identification (including but not limited to driver's licence, state-issued ID, or passport). This means your school ID will not cut it, nor will your social security card.

Do to the sensitive nature of the "SPAT*Cave" contest, we will be prohibiting the use of ANY recording devices inside of the room. Members will be checked prior to entering the contest room and violators will be prohibited from attending the event. If you have a camera on your person, make necessary arrangements for its disposal prior to coming to this event. In the event that someone gets a recording device within the room, the contest will be canceled on the spot and the violator will be ejected from the convention on the basis of violation of TOS that each person signed upon applying for a convention membership. There WILL be places afterwards for people to take photos in the hotel lobbies, etc. The filming and recording of this event is optioned SOLELY to SPAT who will make DVD copies of this event available on his web site.

Photography is not allowed during this contest. No cameras will be allowed into the contest area. This includes camera phones and PDAs with photographic capabilities. Anyone bringing these to the contest will be turned away at the door. Anyone caught taking photographs during the contest will be ejected from the room, camera and violator will be turned over to convention security for appropriate actions, and the violator will be labeled a "jerk" (note- the con reserves the right to kick out jerks - see the con rules - #7).

So if you plan on attending, plan ahead to have the one and not the other!

Also of note - we are still accepting entry forms for the FABRICATIONS contest, however, our email recipt system appears to not be working. If you haven't gotten an email back, your entry was probably received but in storage. Now that we know about the problem we're working on fixing it. If you don't get a recipt email by next Monday please let me know by emailing me at auroraceleste(at)gmail.com or by emailing the costume track director through his email listed on the DragonCon website.
