So in a blatant attempt to change the topic, back to the title change. It's true, we "adopt" in whatever is popular culture. But I mourn the loss of the term "Fantasy". But It reminds me of a debate we had once in a literature class, and I would like to see what people think of that here.

Once upon a not too long ago time, Sci-Fi, fantasy, and horror were all swamped under Science Fiction. So where do you draw the lines on what each genera means to you? Some say anything futuristic or technical is Sci-Fi. And everything not in our current modern world is fantasy. And anything scary and suspenseful is horror. But a lot of things overlap and don’t fit so neatly into one label.

Also, I find the big movie trends interesting. For example, zombies. I think the game Resident Evil started the zombie craze. And 28 Days Later seems to have changed the genre with their new speed zombies. The next several zombie movies seem to have adopted them.

The next big trend seems to be big epic battle movies. My guess is Lord of the Rings started it. Sure there were others before, but none so big and grand. And now they seem to be coming out one after another.

Any others people can think of?

All About the Show )

After reading several of the posts that Ive seen here including the one that essentially says "Im allowed to have my opinion, but no one else can have theirs", I figured, why not write my own take on the whole situation?

My reply to the first post that got everyone's panties twisted... )

Now, I meant what I said here. You cant go anywhere anytime and not have sex surrounding you. Its the age. Its the day in time. And for someone (especially someone that claims to be in the adult entertainment industry) to downplay that or act like it doesnt exist WORLDWIDE is just silly. I mean, lets be real kids....we're the free-ist country on the planet...with the most restrictions. TV shows on other continents are risque to say the least.

Im going to dragoncon this year, because I want to. If it sucks, I wont go back. Am I going to get laid? No. But the generalizations that are going on, are the same type of generalizations that have started fights for decades. "That person is a stripper therefore she's automatically a whore". Just because someone may dress a bit skimpier than someone doesnt make them a whore, or out just to get laid. And just because someone shows up at Dragoncon, doesnt mean we're all there to get our proverbial "shits and giggles".

Im not flaming anyone. Im pointing out a simple fact. Its 2004.

Another fact is that while I understand getting flamed SUCKS....if you didnt comment on EVERY OTHER PERSONS commentary in a negative way, you probably wouldnt get flamed. Makes sense eh?

Do I care about the laws in Atlanta? No, not really. Why? Because Im not enough of a tard to go out and get fall down shitfaced or naked in a public street. The people that are....probably deserve to go to jail. Wanna post something on this community that Ill be deadon impressed by? Or take note on? How about a picture map to DC? How about local hotels in that area? Uhm...hotel rates? Average costs of cab rides? Lists of contests? Something useful...that would make me happy.

And btw, this is *MY* opinion. Comment if you like, dont if you dont want to. Im not flaming anyone, but if you flame me, Im probably liable to tell you to take a flying leap. Now if you want to comment and act like an adult (Im always up for friendly debating) do so. However, I should probably leave this by saying "Let the flaming commence" cuz I know thats what is going to occur. :) Happy Thursday.

**EDIT** forgot one thing. I used to live in Columbus Ohio. Several years back a Lesbian Pride parade took place. Several women were arrested for going topless in downtown columbus. These women then sued the Columbus PD for arresting them without due cause. CPD stated "Indecent exposure". Lesbians said "You cant arrest us on a crime that doesnt exist". CPD said "Going topless in downtown columbus is a crime". Lesbians then went to downtown columbus and took pictures of men walking around the area without their shirts on. Lesbians came back and said "If you ban us/arrest us, you have to arrest them to." Supreme court agreed with said Lesbians, because the fact is...men have nipples and breasts too. The same thing will eventually occur in Atlanta. Someone will come back and say "Men can do it, so women can too." Dont say it wont either, because 50 years ago, no one ever expected the FCC to start allowing the use of the word "Fuck" on public tv either.

I learned one thing yesterday. It is pointless to defend when PEOPLE DO NOT GET IT and project their issues onto anothers post. Everybody frizzle frazzle.. *Shakes head.. Atleast I know there are 4 people who speak my language.. Whatever it may be. Have a good day.. Let's pull our undies out our ass and move the fuck ON!

First of all - [livejournal.com profile] critus, though she can be blunt about things, I do believe that [livejournal.com profile] jolefay's latest post was an attempt to put all this business to rest, but as you've illustrated so plainly, people are clamoring to get digs in one way or another.

Initially, this all started with joking commentary about the various sexually-oriented communities that have been pimped here in the D*C community, but it would seem that some people decided to take this as some sort of attack on their right to wander around in costume or somesuch. Things shifted to her spending some time on the defensive. Then to a general FYI that the Atlanta admin was cracking down on things at the moment, and that it might be good to consider this when packing up the aforementioned costumes (by the way, this isn't unfounded - you might try searching around for recent events at the Chamber).

Knowing her (and having talked with her during the day yesterday), I don't think she was trying to attack anyone's preference or bait flames, but I also know she'll defend herself, and after the flood of comments in email, she did get into that mode. Is she jealous of those that undress-up for the con? No - I think she's attractive, but find her nowhere near that vain. Is she a prude? Not even. Is she someone that loves the con and may try to defend it somewhat? Yes - otherwise she wouldn't have worked there the years that she has. She sometimes writes a bit off-the-cuff, and sometimes the fact that the tone of one's words is difficult to discern in text bites her in the ass.

In this case, it's probably time to shelve this unintentional argument and leave with the information gleaned about changes in law. Some of my post is opinion. Some is fact or observation. I hope that it's clear which is which. My motivation to write this - she is my friend, admitted, but I also have some insight others might not, having been sitting beside her when she posted the first bit and having discussed the community invites with her at the time. My overall opinion: Do what you damn well want, but be prepared to face whatever consequences arise, and don't drag the con down along the way. Also, have your opinion, enjoy it, but know that everyone else will be doing that, as well.

If I make a post in a community and turn off the comment feature I can try and get the last word in on an issue that people are pretty much ignoring me on because I'm being a bitch about it.
[identity profile] sraedi.livejournal.com
heya, I like cows!!! :D!!

Have any of you ever played Planescape: Torment? ^.^

yaaay Con! you all rule!
[identity profile] electricsoup.livejournal.com
Yay for con! 238 days away! Yay. :)

Who's doing a costume? What are you doing? Are you part of a group/theme with others?
[identity profile] dementia.livejournal.com
I wanted to find out how many of you are available, or can recommend people, for commissioned work? Whether it's sewing, accessories, advanced, whatever. I have no talent whatsoever, so I want to commission pieces of costumes out. Who do you all recommend/trust for comic hero type costumes or headpieces or fetish custom stuff or accressories or just general costuming stuff?
