5 Weeks out!!!
We are all so excited :)
We're putting word out now to sign up for a henna party and/or appointment! We'll come to your room, meet you in a central spot, do it up in the art room...whatever! We'll be staying in a host hotel this year so we can go as late as needed. We'll have sign up sheets at our bazaar table and we'll post our cell phone numbers as the date gets closer.
To see some of our designs, go to our henna images page.

Date: 2009-07-28 05:03 am (UTC)questions
Date: 2009-07-28 12:08 am (UTC)2: How long to a) do the design b) let it "set" c) be ready for show? (ie if I had one done on say my back, how long before I could wear a shirt before without ruining it?
3: What are the general costs? I know that it probably depends on how big a design/complicated etc. and other factors...but a good guess-timation
Re: questions
Date: 2009-07-28 05:10 am (UTC)I hate to be all vague, but a lot of it really depends on the design. Roughly though - thinner lines take about 10-15 minutes to dry, thicker can take 30 or so (if we're in your room or something we can take a hairdryer to it). Think "ink pen" thick is 10 min, "sharpie" thick is 15 or so and go up from there. Once it is dried then you forget about it and leave the paste on as long as possible.
Cost is about the same way - a good rule of thumb is a full hand generally runs $20-$30...but there's a good amount of detail involved. I have done large back pieces between $30-$50. Sorry for the large range! I can promise that we make sure you get what you pay for.

Date: 2009-07-28 03:41 am (UTC)For anyone considering Henna, I highly recomend this group. They did an excellent job on both mine and my wifes tattoos last year and I totally plan on getting one again this year.

Date: 2009-07-28 05:14 am (UTC)If you want the Clan symbol again this year let me know and I'll print out a copy to bring along (I was SO worried about copying it from a cell phone! It is good to hear that you liked it!!!). Stuff like that just really makes an artist's day - thank you again :)

Date: 2009-07-29 12:59 am (UTC)Also, for Star Wars I would start with Imperial Symbol, Clone Symbol, Rebel Symbol, and Fett Skull.
Thirdly, don't forget Star Trek, at the very least you might get the Starfleet arrowhead (symbol on uniform) and IDIC (vulcan) symbol.

Date: 2009-07-30 09:23 pm (UTC)I found an awesome Vader helmet, but it'll be REAL easy to get wonky via henna. If I have a rough time sketching it, henna will be 10 times worse! I'll keep looking, though. I found all the other symbols.

Date: 2009-07-28 07:00 am (UTC)I do believe I will be a customer :)
I got henna in Egypt and really regretted it (high quality henna, TERRIBLE application); then I've gotten henna at DC and it was really wonderful! Can't wait!

Date: 2009-07-28 08:23 pm (UTC)I'll be working on getting more designs in the next few weeks. Hopefully we'll have a picture book together by then, too. A portable website photo gallery, if you will.
I'm so freaking excited I can't stand it.

Date: 2009-07-29 01:30 am (UTC)Do you do henna on faces?
no subject
Date: 2009-07-29 01:40 am (UTC)We have some time on Thursday still - and maybe more once we get our plane tickets. Friday morning is pretty open still.
We will put henna practically anywhere - but it won't stain the face and doesn't work well at all on the neck. The further away from your torso the better - think elbows to hands and knees to feet for best results.

Date: 2009-07-29 02:28 am (UTC)Things to Consider
Henna is applied as a greenish paste. It will dry a dark brown/black. The dried Henna will peel and flake off, leaving a stain behind!
Depending on your skin type and tone, the stain darkness will vary. The paler the skin tone, the deeper the stain.
For best results, try a design on these parts: hands, wrists, feet, ankles, legs
Designs will NOT be applied to your face! It will not stay!
Designs applied closer to the center of the body do not turn out as dark. If you would like a design on your UPPER ARM, BACK OF NECK, SHOULDER, SMALL OF BACK OR HIP, please note IT WILL NOT BE AS DARK.
The reason for the torso issue is that you're moving all the time, even arm swinging when you're walking will interfere with the staining process. Your torso, in addition to moving, sweats more and exfoliates at a more rapid rate, hence the stain doesn't turn out as well. Having said that, if artists add dyes to their henna, the issue probably isn't as big of a deal.

Date: 2009-07-30 05:08 am (UTC)Oh and how do the tattoos hold up under, say, elbow length satin/satin-like opera gloves?
I am definitely interested but I'm not sure when I'm dressing up in the costume that I want one tattoo (the symbol in my user pic) done with and probably won't know until either the Dark Fantasy track schedule goes up or the main programming grid goes live. The other I'm not sure if it's going with a costume or not.
Gods but I feel like I've just put y'all through the Inquisition...

Date: 2009-07-30 05:13 am (UTC)Keep your tattoo well moisturized under those gloves! Carry something with you if you can to keep applying on the stain.
We haven't even gotten our plane tickets yet, so I understand not know what the heck is going on. We'll have info there in the art room, at the very least, so that you can get ahold of us at the con. Hopefully we'll have reception on our phones!

Date: 2009-07-30 05:17 am (UTC)I keep lotion with me all the time thanks to having carpal tunnel and needing lotion to give myself a hand massage so that's an easy feat, too. :)
OMG plane tickets...I feel for you. I'm constantly thankful that we live 3 1/2 hours away so we can just drive. But scheduling is a toughie for me always thanks to my wonderful duties with the Daily Dragon. :) I'll probably send my hubby over to get info. From what I've heard, cell reception's gotten better in the hotels.

Date: 2009-07-31 03:24 am (UTC)Thank you for posting those! The "Fett skull" is quite awesome, I must say. I'll have to test draw these and I'll post a pic of that one. I just finished the Stargate system lord symbols, too. Well, the popular ones anyway.

Date: 2009-08-03 05:24 pm (UTC)By Thursday evening we may very well be walking zombies if there's no time for a nap. LOL, FYI on that one. We're starting to get Thursday appointments, so if you know when you can schedule, do it now! We've got an appointment book and everything!
Oooh!
Date: 2009-08-12 07:22 pm (UTC)How far in advance do we need to book an appointment with you?
Re: Oooh!
Date: 2009-08-12 08:34 pm (UTC)We will have someone in the art room practically the whole time (we have other art at the show as well), so if you have some free time but don't know it advance just pop on by and we're doing them as walk ups as well. Basically the appointments help keep people from having to wait in line and opens us up to after hours work too.
