5 Weeks out!!!
We are all so excited :)

We're putting word out now to sign up for a henna party and/or appointment! We'll come to your room, meet you in a central spot, do it up in the art room...whatever! We'll be staying in a host hotel this year so we can go as late as needed. We'll have sign up sheets at our bazaar table and we'll post our cell phone numbers as the date gets closer.

To see some of our designs, go to our henna images page.

From: [identity profile] paidiraiompair.livejournal.com
1: What day will you first be available?? (I was wondering if you would be there Thursday)
2: How long to a) do the design b) let it "set" c) be ready for show? (ie if I had one done on say my back, how long before I could wear a shirt before without ruining it?
3: What are the general costs? I know that it probably depends on how big a design/complicated etc. and other factors...but a good guess-timation

It's still a little strange. I've waited for this from end of con to right now, and my favourite part of the year. . is just around the corner.

I was hoping you guys would be back this year. I'm the one who got the Jabba Clan Symbol (my wife got the Allergic to Codiene).

For anyone considering Henna, I highly recomend this group. They did an excellent job on both mine and my wifes tattoos last year and I totally plan on getting one again this year.

I was planning on getting the clan symbol again. And it's my fault for not remembering my print out and having to find a way too small version. If you don't get a chance to print it out, don't worry about it too much, I've already downloaded a better version onto my IPhone so it won't be so blocky (I've already checked that it will basically fill my Iphone's screen without pixelization).

I'm thinking I'll need to locate some Star Wars friendly stuff this year. ;)
Thanks for the reminder!!

I'm supposed to ask if you guys will have any Thursday Night appointments?

Also, for Star Wars I would start with Imperial Symbol, Clone Symbol, Rebel Symbol, and Fett Skull.

Thirdly, don't forget Star Trek, at the very least you might get the Starfleet arrowhead (symbol on uniform) and IDIC (vulcan) symbol.

I couldn't find a specific Clone Symbol via Google. Could you post a link to an image?

I found an awesome Vader helmet, but it'll be REAL easy to get wonky via henna. If I have a rough time sketching it, henna will be 10 times worse! I'll keep looking, though. I found all the other symbols.

Holy Catfish, those are awesome!
I do believe I will be a customer :)
I got henna in Egypt and really regretted it (high quality henna, TERRIBLE application); then I've gotten henna at DC and it was really wonderful! Can't wait!

Hi there. You did my group last year as well and we all loved our tats. I'm going to PM you about scheduling another large session.

Hey y'all! This is Karen, the other half of Kawoni Studios! I'm trying my hardest to navigate LJ and I'm all confused. LOL

I'll be working on getting more designs in the next few weeks. Hopefully we'll have a picture book together by then, too. A portable website photo gallery, if you will.

I'm so freaking excited I can't stand it.

What do I need to do to get an appointment on Thursday evening? We will be at the Marriot by early afternoon. If not available on Thursday evening, how do I get an appointment for early on Friday?

Do you do henna on faces?

Here's the spiel in a nutshell, lifted from our website and repeated ad nauseam at every event:

Things to Consider

Henna is applied as a greenish paste. It will dry a dark brown/black. The dried Henna will peel and flake off, leaving a stain behind!

Depending on your skin type and tone, the stain darkness will vary. The paler the skin tone, the deeper the stain.

For best results, try a design on these parts: hands, wrists, feet, ankles, legs

Designs will NOT be applied to your face! It will not stay!

Designs applied closer to the center of the body do not turn out as dark. If you would like a design on your UPPER ARM, BACK OF NECK, SHOULDER, SMALL OF BACK OR HIP, please note IT WILL NOT BE AS DARK.

The reason for the torso issue is that you're moving all the time, even arm swinging when you're walking will interfere with the staining process. Your torso, in addition to moving, sweats more and exfoliates at a more rapid rate, hence the stain doesn't turn out as well. Having said that, if artists add dyes to their henna, the issue probably isn't as big of a deal.

sorry I didn't read the website. I was just curious about the face thing. I am hoping to contact you guys via email tomorrow to set up an appt for Th evening or Fr morning. Thanks for the info :)

Oh! That wasn't aimed at you for not reading! Sorry! It's just info in the thread.

Quick question: I've never done henna before but would love to and am wondering about allergic reactions. I'm allergic to some pretty weird stuff (eucalyptus for example) and that would be my only worry. I'd love to have my life symbol, a phoenix, done on my right shoulder if I can do it without having a reaction.

If you're allergic to eucalyptus oil, you're probably out of luck. Many henna artists use eucalyptus in their henna paste. What you CAN do is a little test patch. If it starts to burn, itch, etc, wipe it off immediately before any harm is done. If it's something you can stand for 30 minutes, then give it a try.

That might be terrible advice. LOL

From: [identity profile] wdnsdyschld.livejournal.com
Doing a patch test is generally good advice. However, I am allergic enough that I'm not able to handle the leaves or stems of the plant, so I think it's best for me not to attempt this. Bummer! Thanks for the info and quick response!

Do you know if you're allergic to tea tree oil? I can make a batch without eucalyptus oil. It's main and most common purpose is for smell. Henna + lemon juice = nasty odor.

And I've been told I'm crazy, so take that with a grain of salt. ;)

As far as I know, I'm not. That would be awesome!

And about the crazy, you're in good company here. Sanity is boring.

If there's a specific design that I'd like, do I need to bring a copy/picture of it with me or can I email it to you? They're both pretty simple designs...I'm probably gonna get on 2 different days. I have pics of the designs in about the same scale as I'd like them done. (That's one of them in my user pic...)

Oh and how do the tattoos hold up under, say, elbow length satin/satin-like opera gloves?

I am definitely interested but I'm not sure when I'm dressing up in the costume that I want one tattoo (the symbol in my user pic) done with and probably won't know until either the Dark Fantasy track schedule goes up or the main programming grid goes live. The other I'm not sure if it's going with a costume or not.

Gods but I feel like I've just put y'all through the Inquisition...

It'll be easier for us if you bring a copy of your design (that way we won't lose it or have to remember who has what). You can just whip it out and we'll draw it.

Keep your tattoo well moisturized under those gloves! Carry something with you if you can to keep applying on the stain.

We haven't even gotten our plane tickets yet, so I understand not know what the heck is going on. We'll have info there in the art room, at the very least, so that you can get ahold of us at the con. Hopefully we'll have reception on our phones!

I'll have copies of the designs with me anyway because they're both in a book I want Sherrilyn Kenyon to sign so that's easy.

I keep lotion with me all the time thanks to having carpal tunnel and needing lotion to give myself a hand massage so that's an easy feat, too. :)

OMG plane tickets...I feel for you. I'm constantly thankful that we live 3 1/2 hours away so we can just drive. But scheduling is a toughie for me always thanks to my wonderful duties with the Daily Dragon. :) I'll probably send my hubby over to get info. From what I've heard, cell reception's gotten better in the hotels.

I was thinking of this one (referred to as "Republic Symbol"):

There is also the symbol the clone trainees wore

Oh! I have both of those. I'm not versed in Star Wars past the movies so I wasn't sure who wore what and when, etc.

Thank you for posting those! The "Fett skull" is quite awesome, I must say. I'll have to test draw these and I'll post a pic of that one. I just finished the Stargate system lord symbols, too. Well, the popular ones anyway.

We finally booked our airline tickets. We're on a red-eye out of LAX Wednesday night, which means a really *really* early arrival Thursday morning. (But YAY for non-stop flights!)

By Thursday evening we may very well be walking zombies if there's no time for a nap. LOL, FYI on that one. We're starting to get Thursday appointments, so if you know when you can schedule, do it now! We've got an appointment book and everything!

Oooh!

I'd love to get one of these. However, I'm not sure as to scheduling yet, since things are still a bit vague for me on that front. :(

How far in advance do we need to book an appointment with you?
