Hello Everyone,
For those of you that don't know me, I am Cassy Gordon, the Senior Director of Public Relations. One of my departments at Dragon*Con, Signage (you know, the guys that make sure you aren't wandering around room to room wondering what the heck is going on inside?), is in need of a couple (ok, more like 4-5 at last count) of volunteer staff.
The most immediate need is for two people that would be available to work on the two weekends prior to the Convention (August 22-23, and August 29-30) in the Riverdale office typesetting and printing signs, so in the greater Atlanta area is obviously helpful.
It is preferred that you have some sort of graphic design knowledge using Adobe CS3 software (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop), however we are willing to teach people with great attitudes and the willingness to learn a new skill set!
Your time at the office printing/mounting signs will count towards the overall 25 hours required as a volunteer. If you have never worked as a volunteer of the convention, there is a $20 first time volunteer fee. If you have already purchased your membership for 2009, we will not only waive your first time volunteer fee, but also your transfer fees on your current membership!
If you are interested in volunteering for this department, please email the Signage Director, Jason Mitchell, at signage (at) dragoncon (dot) org, or me at pr (at) dragoncon (dot) org.
Other departments are also in need of volunteers, so if Signage isn't your cup of tea, please email our Volunteers Director, John Bunnell at volunteers (at) dragoncon (dot) org.
We look forward to seeing you all in September!
~Cassy
EDIT (July 22): Jason is out of town until June 27, so please do not be discouraged if he doesn't respond right away.

Date: 2009-07-21 06:42 pm (UTC)First-time volunteers pay a $20 fee, but after that, as long as you work the 25 hours each year, you're in free for the next year. :)

Date: 2009-07-21 06:46 pm (UTC)Most all departments require that the 25 hours be worked during the convention, which depending on the department can be from Thursday until Monday (example, registration), but many are Friday through Monday.
If you have never been on staff before, then you will need to pay the $20 fee (some departments do have waivers, like Signage at the moment, but don't count on that), however, if you chose to return the following year as a volunteer, you will not be required to pay the fee again.
Hope that helps!
~Cassy
