Based on some of the fees I've seen for the Creation Star Trek conventions, I'd estimate it's going to be in the $50-$75 range for each of them.

LOL

Can we sell our blood at the con? ; )

Then again, after the first two days who would wish to pay for it.

What a rip! I don't remember people charging ANYTHING for autographs when I was a kid.

James Edward Olmos charged 60. I agree, it's too much, but there was no line to get to him and I have it on my special edition blade runner forever.

I think that's quite honestly the only good thing about it, at 50-100 a pop I can't see hordes of people trying to get a signature. Then again, perhaps I am a little naive with that statement.

We shall see.

People can still wait in line just to shake hands and say hello, even if the handler may frown on it.

I'm still debating on which people are worth getting an autograph from, since there won't be much money left after photos (which are more important to me).

Hey man, I've seen your page before from the Fanmail forum. Kinda neat we're going to the same convention!

This one: http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/

Yeah, I'll definitely get a few autos, but I gotta pick an choose wisely since most of my money is already going to photo ops.

The only autograph you really need is the one on the bottom right hand of a check made out to you.

I'm happy just to see the panels stars are on, I never collect autographs.

FYI

Nimoy has been charging $65 for Creation folks who order it in advance, and $75 if you bought your autograph ticket at the con. I heard similar prices when he was at FX con.

No word on Stewart's prices. In fact, no one has confirmed yet if he will be signing at all.

Honestly, this is without disrespect to the other celebrities. Mr. Nimoy is 'Spock'. I'm not a trekkie but how often are you going to get to see him, him and Patrick Stewart. I like Patrick Steward on the strength of other films, that and he's from the same county as me in England. Mr. Nimoy, I think any kind of picture has to be purchased, preferably at the table.

Creation cons do their autographs a bit differently than Dragon*con. You have to purchase an autograph ticket to even have the opportunity to get an autograph. The ticket (or the opportunity to even get the autograph) is what you purchase in advance or when you arrive. You still get your item signed in person.

I got Malcolm last year though I'll get him again this year. He was also born quite close to my birth place. I think the way to go is a ticket for a picture to be taken at the table, if they do that. I have a creeping feeling that the only pictures we are likely to get will be the professional ones. . they stand to make far more money that way.

Personally I do both the panel and wait in line at the Walk of Fame for autographs. What I can't see is paying, for instance, $200.00 for a photo with Patrick Stewart for about a millisecond of his time. At l;east at the autograph table you get a little more face time with the stars. They are all very generous with their time there. When it comes to the photo sessions, I've heard that you are corralled like cattled and rushed through. This is not the star's fault, but the photographer. Gotta make as money as he can!!

I'm inclined to agree. I have only done the professional photo once, never again. I'd rather pay for a ticket for a photo and have my wife or the handler take it, it's still a picture. Plus, having a prof picture done increases your time in line where there is so much to do.

Yeah but even now they charge for your own photo! It's just freaking outrageous.

And I am inclined to disagree... at least slightly, because I know where you're coming from ;-) I've done Walk of Fame, Froggy's photos, as well as waiting for hours in a line for a panel. It's all worth it to me. When I look back on things, I see a picture of me and that guest that brings me happiness. I remember stories told during a panel that made the room laugh. I don't remember the money I've lost or time I've spent in a slow moving line.

This year has a lot of high profile guests, and I'm choosing to look at it positively, as an opportunity to get something out of it, whether it's their auto, a picture with them, their panel, or just shaking their hand. Let's have everyone enjoy whatever aspect they enjoy and not bicker about high costs or being rushed along.

In a way I can certainly see your point. Waiting in line for a celebrity with other like minded individuals can lead to bonding- and as such not only does the time go by but unlikely relationships can form.

Oh, don't get me wrong! I would never call someone who wants to do any of the con stuff a kookoo! I was just telling my personal preferances. What's good for the goose, isn't necessarily good for the gander. That's why we are all created as originals!! What a boring world it would be if we weren't! CON ON PEOPLE!! Whatever you like to do, do it with relish and delight!

and seriously, if we ALL wanted to do the same things, just imagine how long the line would be!

I'm going to say after the increase with Edward James Olmos, that autographs with big names are going to be about 40 and up. EJO was 60 for an autograph and then 30 for a picture.

I know some actors usually donated their earnings to charity, which personally I don't mind.

Your seriously going to see a rise in the cost of autographs and pictures.

This year is going to cost you a pretty penny.

Which, considering the state of things makes me shake my head. But the evil business side of things, this is a convention and then *know* what you want.

From: [identity profile] carencey77.livejournal.com
EJO was 60 for autograph and 50 for a picture last year, I think. so the photos are probably a 20% increase rather than 50%.

not that I disagree with your conclusion in general, though!

It's a different world compared to a coupla decades ago when you could walk up to a celeb at a con or a premier and get a freebie autograph. And to be honest many of them get royally screwed by agents, managers, etc. and wind up destitute in their retirement years. I don't begrudge them a high fee for an autograph (although I won't pay it ;).

You know, I would love an autograph from both Leonard Nimoy and Patrick Stewart. (and Malcolm McDowell and Terry Gilliam). At those prices however, I certainly can't afford them. If I did have extra money for an autograph, I would definitely choose someone in the $20-$30 range. It would be great to have Spock's autograph next to Scotty's (who only charged $20 when he was here many years ago). I was shocked at the amount of people in line for Edward James Olmos at $60. I don't have a large amount to spend on celebrity signatures because I know I'll be spending money at artist ally (comic books are my favorite part of the con). Last year I only got one celebrity autograph (from Hayden) and had to forgo getting Sean Astin or Avery Brooks because I was keeping to a budget. Overall, my enjoyment in the Walk of Fame has gone down each year since it now feels more business like and much less informal. The one autograph I have to have this year is Bruce Boxleitner to complete my Babylon 5 collection. (Anyone else notice Jerry Doyle last year charging less than others? I really respect that from him). I really have a hard time paying more than $30 for an autographed picture. So far, the celebrity who was by far the most gracious and generous in my experience was William Katt. When he signed "Pleasure to meet you.." after a brief chat, I really knew he meant it too.

Ditto on the William Katt observation! I talked to him at DragonCon and he was one of the nicest guests I have met. He signed my 'Pippin' DVD and posed for a photo. We talked about the production of 'Pippin' and sightseeing in Atlanta. Later in the day two of my roomies went to talk to him about theater stuff (one was a dance major, one a theater major) and after a pleasant chat he GAVE them autographs for FREE. He is very sweet and a class act.

Me too for Bruce Boxleitner! I have a large Bab 5 picture framed and am only missing Bruce, Jeff Conaway, and Patricia Tallman. I doubt I will ever get Brue or Patricia. I am just so excited to finally get Bruce!!!! Being on a budget and sticking to it at con? I surely do admire you. Lot of people get in trouble with the devil may care spending and end up regreting that. Way to be smart and still have a great time!!

I really wish that they would charge less to sign the photo ops that we get at con -- it DOES seem like a ripoff to pay another $75-100 to get an autograph on a picture that I just paid $100 for (have to go in with a friend on the Stewart pic!), and it usually means that I just can't do it and will have to wait for another occasion. At our local con, they can charge what they want for their regular autographs, but the con asks them to charge no more than $10 to sign the photo ops. Dragon*Con, alas, not only doesn't have that policy, it seems they tell the actors they CAN'T charge less than $25 for anything. Even just three years ago, we could get free snapshots along with a paid autograph, and often could get cheap autographs on something we brought along.

I agree with you but then I also consider how much it would cost for tickets to a theme park or ball game or a really good restaurant meal. Also what it costs to smoke forca year of get other niceties. I suppose it depends what you want : )

I am sorry, but I refuse to pay the prices these people are asking for pictures and autographs. I t really ticks me off that they try to bleed us dry and that they seem to forget we are the reason they became stars in the first place.

Have Items

I got my signatures many years ago. I have Leonard Nimoy and George Takei in one of the James Blish original series books. Also have Patrick Stewart and John de Lancie in an Encounter At Farpoint paperback. Anyone interested???
