"Andy Hallett, who starred as Lorne ("the Host") on the TV series Angel, died of heart failure last night at age 33, according to his longtime agent and friend Pat Brady. The actor passed away at Cedars-Sinai Hospital after a five-year battle with heart disease, with his father Dave Hallett by his side.

Hallett, from the Cape Cod village of Osterville, Mass., appeared on more than 70 episodes of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff, Angel, between 2000 and 2004. The accomplished actor was also a musician and sang two songs ("Lady Marmalade" and "It's Not Easy Being Green") on the Angel: Live Fast, Die Never soundtrack, released in 2005.

Andy has spent his post-Angel years working on his music career, playing shows around the country. He had been admitted to the hospital three or four times in the past few years for his heart condition, according to Pat.

A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends in Cape Cod, most likely over this weekend."

I'm sorry I never met him at D*C.

I met Andy both in 2003 and in 2006 and was able to work closely with him both years in Q & A sessions and other track related events. The cool thing about him was that he loved to just hang out in the track room and Hyatt bar and answer question and tell stories after he was done signing for the day. He was truly a funny and gifted human being. I'm sorry to see him go.

I had a brief conversation with him in 03. He was the sweetest, most lively person. He treated me that one time like an old friend. Made me feel like we'd known each other for years.

I didn't know him well, but I will miss him.

I got to meet him two years ago at Con. I only started watching Angel when I accidentally flipped channels and saw this wonderful character of a green, karaoke-singing demon and thought that had to be worth checking out. Since then, I became a devoted Angel fan because of how much of Lorne rang true to me. He is still my favorite character of all of Joss Whedon's characters, and so much of that love of life and song, and human vulnerability was true in Andy. It was a true honor and a gift to get to meet him in person (the first celebrity I ever sought out for a Q&A or on celebrity row), and I always hoped I'd get more chances. I will miss Andy very much. Thank you, Andy Hallett, for the gift of Lorne.

Our household is just heartbroken over this. I was shocked to read the announcement last night and, frankly, am still in shock. Such a lovely man--I've never heard anyone say anything bad about the guy.

Sorry that I never got to meet him...

That's really sad. My heart goes out to his family.

Just two years older than me, too. Scary.

So, it looks like Andy Hallett was a guest at DragonCon in 2001, 2003, and 2006, was he there any other years?

I was absolutely destroyed when I heard this. He was so charming and nice the few times I got to talk to him and watch him speak. I hope he found peace :(
