Hi All!

I have a friend who has to leave the con early to go to a wedding on Sunday and has a flight back to Chicago on Saturday night. Can anyone suggest a good (hopefully cheap) way to get her to the airport from the Hilton? She's driving down with my husband and I but we're hesitant to move our car for fear we'll lose our spot. Any suggestions?
Thanks everyone!

Okay, one last time.

Many of you have questions, and since I continue to answer these questions on the phone, or in e-mail, I thought I would answer them here.

1. If you ordered through Ticketmaster, you will fill out a membership form when you get to the convention. Then you will give it to the person at the Ticketmaster counter, who will enter the information into the computer, and then you will get a badge.

2. If you wish to e-mail me with a badge name to ensure that it is typed in correctly, please do so. Bear in mind, if you have never been to the convention before, that I cannot help you if you are not in my system. Sorry.

3. If you ordered, but it is for someone else, you will fill out the info of the person to whom(?) it belongs. (I have been out of school for a long time so my grammar is atrocious, leave me alone.) If one person wants to fill out for multiple purchases that is fine.

4. If you bought a membership through the office, and then you bought this for someone else, that person goes to the Ticketmaster line, while you go to the pre-registration area. Please do not bring it to me, I cannot help you.

5. My suggestion to you, if you want to hurry the line a fraction, fill out the information in advance by printing out the membership form on the website above the Ticketmaster button. Bring that to the Ticketmaster line and hand it over.

Second call! We have a Codex, Clara, and Vork now. We need a Bladezz, Zaboo, and Tinkerballa!

We are in contact with the actual costume designer and prop maker who made the costumes and weapons.

Who wants to show off The Guild Characters to Dragon*Con? Felicia Day is going to be there!!!

C'mon! Let's do this!

I am hoping someone out there can help me find two Dharma Motor Pool patches. I've found them on 2 different stores online and one ebay seller, but all of them take 2-4 weeks shipping... and it is too close to take a chance. If anyone out there can help me find two of these patches that can be shipped to Indiana by the end of the month, I'll totally buy you a drink at D*C.

One possible option would be if anyone is going to Dallas Comic Con this weekend... if you are you could probably find them for me on the trade floor.

Would anyone have any idea what it will cost to Pre-reg for Dragoncon 2010 at the Con this year?

I bought the 4-day pass way off in the beginning but I've decided I don't have the $ to spend actually getting to and staying at the con lol.

Given how soon the con is, paypal only please. $65 (to cover my costs and paypal). Even with the transfer fee that's $15 cheaper than buying one now.

-- also, anyone know if I can fill out my parts of the form and scan/email it to the recipient? Or do I need to snail mail it? --

I'm hosting a "Star Trek" gathering/photoshoot on Saturday at some point (and it must be Saturday, doing too much else on Friday and Sunday). However, I'm having difficulty determining what time.

details under the cut )

What time would work best for you? AS for location, it will probably be near the Pulse bar in the Marriott simply because of the Trek panels I mentioned.

I know that the disabled services will be in the Sheratan along with regular badge pick up. But this is the first year my partner will be using this and I have a couple of questions.

1. Will it be in a different place than regular badge pick up?
2. Will she have to register with DC to get a disabled badge or can she just show up?
3. We bought our tickets through Ticket Master, will that make any difference at all?
4. I was told that I could also get my badge at the same time, in the same place even though I myself am not disabled, is this true?
5. If so, is there anything that I need to do ahead of time to let them know I'm getting my badge too.
6. Does my partner even HAVE to be there or can I get it for her?
7. If you pick up badges at a different location than regular badge pick up, what time will they be open?
8. Can we expect a line when we pick up and if there is a line, will there be chairs? She can't really stand in a long line and wait at all.

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I don't want to wait until it's time for DC and realize we don't know what to do.

Thanks ahead of time!! :D

In the process of building my steampunk costume for DragonCon, I ended up creating a couple extra accessories, which I've put up for sale on my etsy shop.

Remember "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe"? Sister show "She-Ra, Princess of Power"? "Thundercats"? "Rainbow Brite"? "Voltron"? "Jem"? "Strawberry Shortcake"? "GI Joe"? "My Little Pony"? "The Smurfs"? That D&D cartoon? If so, I'm hosting an '80s gathering.

It will be Sunday at 1:30 pm, on the tenth floor of the Marriott (aka the "skyline level"), which all elevators in the building go to. And it's not just for cartoon characters, costumes from live-action sources from the era and rockers/pop stars of the time are welcome as well. I myself will be dressed as She-Ra, and will probably have a Stormy (from "Rainbow Brite") with me.

Three things I haven't seen mentioned here yet that might be of interest:

First: On Saturday, September 5th, 99X is staging a free concert in Centennial Olympic Park with Collective Soul and Drivin n' Cryin. Centennial Park, for those who don't know, is a handful of blocks away from the con hotels, and adjacent to the Aquarium, so be expecting increased foot traffic and suckier-than-usual parking; and hey, if you're a Collective Soul fan, well now you know.

Second: If you're looking for additional dining options while at the con, you might want to make note of two Atlanta services: Zifty (zifty.com) and Foodler (foodler.com). Between the two of them, they offer a range of restaurant menus and (in Zifty's case) some incidentals, which can be delivered right to your hotel room. Expense varies from typical-Chinese-takeout to decidedly-upscale, but the selection and convenience of delivery make them worth mentioning. (This is not in any way a paid endorsement; I'm just a satisfied customer.)

Third: If you're coming from an area that's served by Clear WiMax? Congratulations; we have it here, too. Bring your modem and save yourself $15/day on hotel internet fees.

Hope this stuff is useful to someone somewhere.

The SETI Institute. You know that place; The Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence Institute. That's where scientists are looking for signs intelligent life beyond the planet Earth. Not the tabloids' little green/gray men (although SETI doesn't care what they might look like) who beam up Earthlings at night for experiments. Remember these are scientists here.   : - )   SETI believes that best way to search for signs of intelligent life in the universe is to listen – as in radio waves. Remember the movie Contact? Remember all those radio telescopes? Well, they're real and the number of them is expanding (thank you Paul Allen of Microsoft).

The Space Track is very excited and proud to present Dr. Seth Shostak, Senior Scientist from the SETI Institute! (rain's been trying to get him here for years!) Dr. Shostak will be giving two presentations for the Space Track. You early birds can catch him in the Space Track room on Friday night at 8:30pm for How Are Scientists Looking for Life Beyond Earth?. Then I want everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, to be there Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm in rooms A601/A602 of the Marriott, for Dr. Shostak's panel, Why I Don't Believe That UFO's Have Anything to Do With Aliens. You will you get to hear a great talk. Dr. Shostak shows up everywhere from PBS' Nova Science NOW to Larry King! He was even on The Colbert Report earlier this year. This will be the Space Track's first large room event - so I want you all there!

Check out Dr. Shostak's latest book, Confessions of an Alien Hunter: A Scientist's Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence
