Henna Body Art at DragonCon

Just taking out a moment for some shameless self promotion. I am a henna artist in this year's DragonCon Art show. If you have an interest in henna or if you have something in mind that would be a perfect adornment for the costume your working on, stop by and see me during regular art show hours. I'll be set up more or less in the center of the art room with my carpet and floor cushions, a happy little oasis in the middle of D*C delirium. I also henna (works on natural only) drum heads. But drummers, the paste needs to set up a bit, so only bring a drum head you can spare for a day or two. I'll just paste in my artist bio (as it will run in the D*C program) behind the cut as further explanation:

For those missing out on Nathan Fillion this year, I have some pics from last year he asked me to take. Those of you at the final panel he did might remember this happening. Enjoy it all!

Fillion Versus the Storm Trooper! )

He was awesome about it! For the record, in his downtime, he plays a lot of Halo. So look out you Halo-ers! You could very well be getting obliterated by Mal!

D*C Henna Addendum

I have some samples up here at http://photobucket.com/albums/y227/parahanhenna/

It's not extensive, but I'll try to keep adding more as I get time.

Cheese Grinder III: Cheese Whiz

This is a shameless plug for my boyfriend's game.  He runs the Cheese Grinder at DragonCon.  This is his 3rd year and will be my first year attending DC and helping him with the game.  Look for us at Tables A1-A3 (I believe) in the gaming rooms.

If you'd like to learn more, check out his website.

Buffy Horror Picture Show

Come one, come all to the 4th annual Buffy Horror Picture Show! The Buffy Horror Picture Show is a RHPS-style showing of "Once More With Feeling" with a full cast and audience sing-a-long. This year, we are having 2 shows starting at 8:30 on Friday night in the International Ballroom, so even if we have a large crowd, everyone shoud be able to see at least one of the shows. BHPS is a lot of fun, and always a big crowd draw, so get there early! Also bring your friends- this year, we want to try and fill both shows. I look forward to seeing you all there!

To learn more about the BHPS, and other Buffy track events, please visit our webpage.

Even if con will be Oompa-less this year, we have this to look forward to.

After the proliferation of Jack Sparrow costumes in the past few years, I am starting a pool: How many people do you think will be dressed as (Johnny Depp's) Willy Wonka this year?

Winner gets one Get-That-Creepy-Willy-Wonka-Song-Out-Of-Your-Head-Free card.

Actually, that's a lie. If I had that card I'd use it RIGHT NOW.

Final Fantasy photo shoot

Right now it's looking like we're planning for this to be Sunday afternoon. So anyone in the Masquerade who would like to come will have plenty of time to go change into Masquerade gear afterwards. Saturday sounds too busy with the parade, other meet-ups, and the Dawn contest. And most people seem to have other plans for Friday as well.

I'll post again later to con time with a more exact time and place.

Tales From Dragon*Con!

It was the early '90s, and it was the second Dragon*Con I'd attended, or maybe the third. I was walking down the street in front of the Atlanta Hilton and Towers late one evening, and I sensed that someone was following me. Indeed, a gentleman of African descent caught up with me and informed me that it was his birthday.

"Well, happy birthday," I replied, and he stated that I looked lonely, and that he had a ladyfriend visiting from Italy, and would I like to meet her?

I replied that, while I was alone, I wasn't actually lonely, and I didn't want to spend time with his Italian friend, whom I'm sure was quite lovely. He was quite insistant, but I would not budge. He tried to appeal to my generous nature, letting me know how much he wanted to have some cash to really enjoy his birthday. It didn't work because I don't have a generous nature.

He would not take "no" for an answer, and I could not seem to get away from him. Fortunately, a lady in a car stopped to ask for directions. While he was distracted, I made my break for it, fast-walking to the (late, lamented) Dunk 'n Dine just down the street. The lady must not have needed detailed directions, because the gentleman with the Italian friend caught up with me just as I got to the door of the (late, lamented) Dunk 'n Dine. He was extremely disappointed that I didn't want to meet his friend, and informed me that he felt that my reason for refusing him had something to do with his racial ancestry.

I lingered over my dinner.

On the whole, I have to say that I do not regret not having accompanied the birthday boy to his hotel room to meet his Italian ladyfriend.

The Art of Body Work

Hello everyone,

Following suit with fellow vendors and artists attending DC2005, this is a moment of shameless promotion.

Giant invisible drum clock

The closer we get to the con, I feel like there is this ghostly drumbeat that never goes away and just get louder and louder. It is gonna be sooo coool!

There's been a fair amount of discussion on the 'Panhandling Ordinance' in Atlanta, and how that may affect DragonCon. Some have been compassionate, some have been hateful.

Consider this before you judge... it can happen to anyone. )

Hello there; I'm in Charleston, SC and I'm looking to make this year's con. While I've managed to make rooming arangements with a friend at Emory, I don't really have a way of getting to Atlanta - I was planning to take the bus, but it's only recently that I've checked and learned the shortest route via Greyound is three stops and that I can't book the trip as a whole, I have to do individual stops and puzzle out my connections. Add to that the route is a bit roundabout, and, well, the bus system is not looking promising.

So, first, is anyone here from Charleston or thereabouts who's going to the con this year? Know anyone?

Know anyone willing to give someone a ride? Willing to give a ride to someone prepared to cover quite a bit of gas money?

I'd prefer to leave Friday late afternoon and come back latish Monday, but I'll see if I can work around what I can get.

Any help? I still need to check with some guys I know who went two years back and see if they're heading down again, but as it's getting more than just close I know I need to be on top of things. - Paul McCann

Anyone have floor space for a night or two at the Con? Probably Saturday Night.. Just me. Bed would be better, but willing to take floor space.

NEED CRASH SPACE FOR 2

Due to injuries costing much cash this month, one roomie -- whose card the hotel was on -- has had to bail. The 2 people of my group that would still like to try to go have only $200 to contribute total for the whole weekend. Anyone got an offer? I am a hot Dawn Lookalike, Arms of Middle Earth elf, and Browncoat. I am also injured -- on crutches, and possibly a wheelchair -- but I'll be damned if I let that slow me down! My male friend is a quiet gamer type. Please e-mail me ASAP:

ME from 2000 Dawn contest:

2 tix for sale!

My loving Ted and Ashley are selling thier con tickets so I can go to DragonCon, because we can't afford to send all of us, and I've been sewing costumes for months... So, we have 2 full 4-day memberships up for grabs. $50 each, (+ $20 tranfer fees) is cheaper than the $85 they'll be at the door. Or, buy both for $45 each (+$20 transfer fees). E-mail me IMMEDIATELY if interested, because I'll need time to mail 'em to ya! Will accept Postal Money Orders, or Paypal through a friend's account.

I need this money to rent a wheelchair for con, because crutching around an overpopulated hotel with a torn knee tendon is just too dangerous.

Cheap booze in the ATL?

Hey, I'm needing to stock up for DC, where is the best place in Metro Atlanta to buy my party supplies, price wise? I've heard that Green's Package store had good prices, but wasn't sure if they were the best in town...
