another question

Thanks to everyone for answering my question yesterday - I've got another one for you today!
I've been to two Dragoncons, and didn't get to go to the Masquerade either year. In 2003 we had to leave on Sunday morning, and in 2004 I was doing a shift for info services during the show. So this year it was one of my goals to finally see it . . . but one of the panels I'm on, one that I really want to do, starts at 7:00 Sunday.
My questions are:
1. Would I be able to make it to the Masquerade if I left at 8? Or is it like the Dawn Contest, where you need to get there an hour early?
2. Just how great is the Masquerade? Is it worth seeing?
I would love to watch it from my hotel room if they broadcast it on the hotel channel, but I'd feel nervous about doing that. Last year we were told that the hotel would be doing this, so as info service staffers we told a lot of people that this was what was happening, and then it ended up falling through and people were upset with us. So I dunno . . .
