Okay, I would like to clear something up

It's me again. Thought I'd pop in here to address some questions about eternal memberships. So follow me

1. They are $750 dollars. If you have ordered a membership already but wish to upgrade, call me at the office. This is the only way to get the pro-rate.

2. There is a separate room where the eternals pickup their badges. No waiting in the lovely long lines of registration or pre-registration. Definite plus.

3. In this room, the guests usually pick up their badges at the same time. Please behave, we would like to have these guests back. I am not judging, I have gone fanboy once or twice myself, so I understand the squee factor.

4. In this room there are freebies for the eternals and guests. Please do not get greedy.

5. The night before the convention, there is a small get together for the eternals and guests in the Guest Hospitality suite. Only an eternal badge gets you into the party, and only you. This is the only night that any member can get in this room. After that, you're in the con suite.

6. After purchasing an eternal, you no longer have to purchase a membership from us. All we ask is you contact us with address changes, or badge name changes after this.

7. The badges are non-transferable. If you are unavailable to attend, we will send you the badge, and a program book(if you ask for it) after the show.

Next post, general membership questions answered. You will not believe some of the questions I have gotten.

$750? I thought they were double that. I have some rethinking of things...

Every year after that, do you go to this same room to register? Not having the lines is a definite plus that I wasn't aware of... as well as the Guest Hospitality party!

Until they change it, we go through the Guest/VIP Registration. Before Brenda took it over we used to have to play "where do the Eternals go" which was kinda like a frustrating scavenger hunt for your badge.

I do miss when we had really low numbered badges though. Being number 61 was so much cooler than 144315 or whatever I am now...

Just an FYI, the line last year, on Thursday when they opened, was about an hour. *I* wasn't one who stood in it, as I'm not eternal, but our friends are. We were standing out in the lobby, talking, in front of it and it was barely moving.

They did get a nice, hefty stack of hardback books, though. XD

Any comments on this?

Can an eternal member give us a estimate on the wait in line time? Is it a lot longer as soon as the line opens as opposed to an hour or two later?

I can support that, yes, last year on Thursday afternoon the 'VIP' line was 45+ minutes long, even when the walk-up-buy-a-membership line was 15 minutes. My non-eternal friends rubbed this in my face for hours. :)

For the rest of the weekend, though, the VIP line was plenty short, as it has been in previous years. I'm going to guess that the first 1-2 hours after badges *first* become available will be a fluke like this, since those of us crazy enough to be eternal are all crazy enough to get there as early as possible.

Otherwise, it's all gravy. Never really gotten into any of the freebies, and standing in line behind a certain REALLY annoying "handler" is enough to make you spit blood, but everyone else is super-friendly!

Thanks, Chip! I knew some of this but it's nice to know the rest of the perks.

[identity profile] einaphets.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know about the perks. Hmmm, I may have to reconsider...

[identity profile] truexena.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
holy heck batman! I had no idea of the extra perks an eternal got ya. I was thinking the whole 'never have to worry about getting a membership ever again' was enough of a perk. LOL

Special line, special party, and if I don't go I can get my badge and program anyway. Oh YEAH!!! I'm totally saving up.

Thank you kindly, Chip!

Would you mind terribly if someone added a few tags to your post? I was thinking of "dragoncon+faq" and "eternal+memberships" in particular. It won't end the semiannual repetition of questions, but it'll make our redirects to your information a teensy bit faster.

Wait, there's a con suite?

[identity profile] sushithegreat.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
PLEASE tell me you're joking.

If not, the consuite is always in the Hyatt on the second floor, right next to the stairs.

Four hotels. Four - Five days of stuff to do 24 hours a day. I never thought about a con suite before. So ... free food and stuff like other c-suites? I'll try to remember that next time. Thanks :)

[identity profile] stigmund.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
The D*C con suite, while run by some of the finest and most innovative people, has generally been very limited in its resources. That being said, plan to visit the con suite for a pitstop, but not a four-course meal. :)

2nd Floor at the Hyatt. Right out of the stairwell. I think its Room 202. Anyway you can't miss it.

Chip's phone number is actually the Dragoncon office fax number. The real number is 770-909-0115

Are you sure Chip doesn't communicate through clicks and whistles?

Chip

What time does this shindig (the party) kick off on Thursday nite? Thanks
