I was wondering if anyone has every reserved a suite at any of the host hotels? With the number of people who have responded to my invites for attending D*CON this year I'm thinking a suite would be the best bet for us so now I'm trying to get an idea on the prices. I've checked the websites but have come up empty handed. I probably just over looked something but thought I'd check here in case someone happened to know the D*CON rates for the hotels.

Second question, my friends and I have stayed at both the Hyatt and the Mariott. We enjoy the rooms at the Mariott but the convenience of the Hyatt was great since its so close to all the late night fun. We've never tried the Hilton. What has been your favorite hotel? Just wondering.

We got a suite at the Marriott two years ago, it worked out well for us. I forget what the price was, but it had a king size bed and one couches and some poofy chairs. We also had a few air mattresses. I think we had a total of 6 (two on the King, 2 on one mattress, one on another mattress, one on the couch), and it was fine space-wise. They also have a wet bar area with a little fridge, and a good size bathroom area. I recommend it, you could probably get 8 in there in everyone was cozy and not terribly fussy about bathroom time, towels or personal space.

The reservations had to be made through a special office, and there was a bit of a discount (I think it was 10 or 20% off - might also want to check for tripple A or other discounts).

Thank you! Alas, the original artist was not visible, so if you remember who it was, please let me know.

And I've got to say, I don't know where you get your icons, but I was chortling all through your userpics.

We've got a suite at the Hyatt atm. We usually stay there because it's close to everything, the tower is really quiet and it's generally nicer. We've gotten some awesome rooms there before.

We stayed at the Hilton last year, and that worked out well for us. It was quieter than the host hotels, and the walk wasn't bad at all as long as we remebered to exit from the correct door. :) A couple of times we went out side doors and managed to get temporarily lost until we recognized a street name and got turned in the proper direction. Oh well, live and learn!

We get a suite in the main part of the Hyatt every year - this will be our 4th time in the same (hopefully) room as well. It's so, so worth it.

How much do the suites cost?

there's more than one type of suite, so you'd want to decide that first - each one has different pricing, and then we get a discount through the con.

my experience

When I called the Marriott about a 'party suite' for the Klingons. I was told by sales those larger suites could not be reserved until 30 days before the con. I thought about going up there (I live 3 blocks from the hotels, nyah!) I got a 'regular' room so I can get in line and then plan to upgrade to a larger suite.

I also thought about the Hyatt, per the reasons others stated in the thread.
Expect to spend about $200 a day, at least.

Suites didn't work for us

We got two suites for our of 12 one year and it was awful. There wasn't enough room and we were all tripping over each other; but the next year, we ended up getting a group of adjoining rooms and we were more comfortable and it wasn't as expensive. I have to say, I prefer the Mariott over the Hyatt anyday ~ mainly because being woken up at 3:30 am by people running and screaming in the hallways because they can't handle their alchol is not fun. I'm all for enjoying alchol and the night life but that is taking it to extremes! The more rooms you get, I believe the discount gets better ~ this year, we are only going to get one room and not share...cause our friends have babies and toddlers that we don't want to get stuck (it always happens) babysitting.

Hilton. Definitely.

I definitely think the Hilton is the way to go if you have money for one of the larger hotels. I stayed there with my boyfriend in '04 when I had the cash; it was $109 a night, clean, spacious, quiet, and generally quite pleasant. There were zero problems with check-in and check-out. We had a king-sized bed, but there would have been enough space in the room to put three or four more people in sleeping bags without a big problem. It's great for people who get jittery around crowds; if you go out of the hilton, you're right behind the Marriott Marquis, and then you can pass through it and keep going to the Hyatt for all the con stuff, but the return trip lets you go from all the insanity to a bit of peace.

Are there 2 bedroom suites at either the Hyatt or the Marriott? We usually room with a good friend, but his unbelievably loud snoring (2 sets of earplugs do nothing) makes me extremely grumpy from lack of sleep by the third day. We thought a 2 bedroom suite might solve the problem. Anyone know if something like this is available?
