Question

So I had patiently been waiting for a year when D*Con would have a glorious masquerade and that happened last year....yeah and I didn't get to attend D*Con for the first time in a few years. So, with hotel already booked and tickets about to be purchased for this year does anyone know if there is a possibility for another masquerade this year??

I'm not sure what you mean by "masquerade" - do you mean a masked ball? At Dragon*Con, the Masquerade is the Sunday night costume-and-skit contest, and it happens every year (and is, for many, the highlight of the 'con). If you're referring to the masked ball, it was billed as a 25th Anniversary event and so it may not happen this year... though I know it was very popular (more folks in line than the room could handle) so they may have it again. You could email Regina Kirby at programming@dragoncon.org to find out either way.

I went to the masked ball last year. It reminded me of that certain scene in Labyrinth. The bands were ghostly and strange and beautiful. I thought it wouldn't be that special seeing as a lot of DragonCon people already wear masks to con, but it definitely had an air of mystery. It would be fun if they had another one this year, but I haven't heard anything. I think they just did that because it was the 25th anniversary.

It was popular alright, it was so popular that people were waiting for hours stretched around the outside of the building (in their ballgowns) just trying to get in. Many people got turned away or were unable to make it in before the end of the party due to the crowd. So from everything I heard, it was fabulous, just they misplanned the crowd that would be interested (since we've ALL wanted this kind of party here for years!) Ah well..here's hoping for next time!

I wish they'd have another...I didn't have a costume for it last year but I do now!

The Masked Ball was a fail, IMO. I waited for hours and I got in and the room was set up so weird. Half of the room was chairs like you would see in a panel room. There were a few tables but not enough.

Plus the music wasn't the kind you could dance to, which defeats the whole purpose of a ball. It was a great idea but the excution was a huge fail.

Agreed. We waited all that time to get in and then just sort of...hovered around in our fancy gear, waiting for something that we could dance to. The Pirate Party ended up being much better for dancing.

I went to the masquerade last year also. I think I hyped myself up expecting something like out of a movie but it was a bit disappointing on the decor/decoration side. It was just a big room, nothing to give it the feel of what I expected. My fault for hoping that I was going to walk into some amazing decor filled wonderland. But as far as the masks and costumes they were amazing and the band was awesome. I had a good time overall.

I recommend the Pirate Party/Time Travelers Ball! It was a lot more dancy and the room they had it in was a beautiful ballroom. It ended up being what I hoped the Masked Ball would be.

The masked ball was one of the things I was looking forward to the most. Got in line early.. waited..waited.. we get in there and they are rows and rows of chairs. Had the feel of a meeting rather than ball. We gave it about 25 minutes and left. Was very disappointed.
