Fridgies In The Marriott

My reminder email for the Marriott came today, no problems at all. Oh, look...a Virtual Concierge link. Clickety click click just to see, and this is what I found:


Refrigerator  $15.00/day


Ummm...WTH? I've had a fridge every damn year in the Marriott since we've been attending, and have never had to pay for it. Does anyone else know what's going on with this?



We love the Marriott. We don't relish staying anywere else. After the whole Passkey clusterfuck last year (we changed to points), I would hate for them to start nickel and dimeing us to death. >_<

people coming in for parade

I'm coming to the Con (of course) but have some relatives that are going to drive in and watch. They're going to have to drive in, drop some folks off that can't walk long distances at a spot (probably in front of one of the hotels), and park.

What time should they arrive ? I am a NightCon person and my parade experience has been climbing out of bed, jumping on a marta (if not staying downtown), and catching it about 2 minutes after it starts. I have no idea how early people start gathering. I would really appreciate some opinions on how early they should get to the Con site. Not doomsday OMG You Need To Be There At 4am type things ..

Also, doesn't the parade normally proceed in front of the Hyatt.. are the streets in front of the Marriot blocked ?

Picking up someone else's badge

Given that registration opens for pre-regs at 10am, is it possible to pick up someone else's badge if they can't be there?  My wife has classes at Georgia State University into the afternoon, and it would be more convenient if I could pick up both of our badges at once.  I know that in the past, a signed note from the other person was enough to give permission.

Is there a way to do that this year?

onsite for parade

I was in downtown Atlanta a few years ago and noticed that the streets don't seem to end so was a bit puzzled when they said no onsite parade registration. Sounds sort of anal.

Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire meetups!

Calling all Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire costumers -- and non-costuming fans with cameras!  Come join us at any or all of our three meetups and photoshoots:
  • Friday 5:30pm at Hardy Ivy Park, for outdoor pictures
  • Saturday 4:30pm in the Marriott 10th floor lounge
    • (Game of Thrones panel in the AMSF track room from 5:30-6:30)
  • Saturday 7:00pm in the Marriott 10th floor lounge

Costumes from either the show or the books are welcome, or just stop by to take some pictures.  We have 35 people confirmed already, so this is likely to be a great time!

(There is also a GoT/ASoIaF parade group, but as the parade registration has closed now, I'm not sure if there's still room in it or not. See here for more info.)

Good, Simple Advice for D*C

In reading an article about having sex at Burning Man, I ran across this little bit at the end. It seems quite fitting for D*C, too, and for more than just hooking up.

Try new things.
Be good to yourself.
Be good to others.
Don’t do things you don’t want to.
You always get to say no, even in the middle of it all.
They always get to say no to your suggestions.
Above all, remember to hydrate and have fun!

Fan Tables?

Hi! Is anyone else on this comm going to be staffing one of the fantables at the Hyatt or the Sheraton? The Harry Potter fancon group I'm with, Ascendio, is set to be at the Sheraton (although we'd love to switch to the Hyatt (ETA on 8/29 - we just got moved!) as all the YA track programming is there or at the Marriott) and were wondering what other groups' plans are for their tables, and if anyone knows if there's wifi available (even at a fee) in the Hyatt space.

When you're over picking up your badge, or heading to programming, please stop by and say hi! We'll be the table with the owl banner on it (at least on Fri-Sunday; the package may not arrive til Thursday).

DragonCon virgin

I have never been to D*C before so please bear with me... I have been trying to read through some of the posts over the last week or so to get some idea of what all happens, but I am still a bit lost. I have seen several posts about Froggy pics, etc. Are you allowed to take pics of the celebrities with your own camera? Can you even get close enough to see them lol?

I am about to head to the homepage and see if I can find some other information there, but thought I would post this first.

I'm a total newbie and this is my first Dragon*Con and would appreciate your assistance.  Can you pre-purchase the celebrity autographs?  How does one purchase them either before or during the con?

Omni Hotel refugees - Are you one of the 100 chosen?

I got the news a couple days ago. Myself, and two other con-goers, have been moved to the Omni Hotel due to the renovations at the Hyatt.

In a bid to make the best out of this shit storm of inconvenience, I want to see how many others here are in the same boat.

So, post here if you were moved from the Hyatt. What are your plans for transportation? Any con plans changing as a result of this? Is there an Omni meet-up planned?

Also - perks of the move: A good chunk off of the cost of our rate this year ( we are saving about $200) - guaranteed room next year + same rate for the room in 2012.

Track Hotels

Is there somewhere that I can find a list of what tracks are being held in which hotels? I could look at some of the posted schedules but I want a list that says Alternate History- Westin, Star Wars- Marriott, etc. Anyone have a clue where I can find this simple info?
