I have a couple of friends coming this year, their first time. They are trying to find somewhere to stay. They don't mind travelling in to the con, but are looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful. Could anyone give me any ideas to pass onto them.

Many thanks!

This lady's LJ is entirely devoted to finding hotels for cheap at Dragon*Con, and it's been a great resource for me: http://xiandesi.livejournal.com/

This late into the hotel game, I'd try blind booking travel sites (where they tell you the hotel after booking) like LastMinuteTravel.com or Hotwire (and select downtown Atlanta). Try to do some research and compare using photos so you know which hotel it is before booking though.

Another choice that I had to do in my first year attending was book a hotel near a Marta station, and take the train every morning and night. Certainly adds more travel time and tiredness, but it's still a decent option.

Let me know if I can be helpful in another way. I've got a blog myself with a guide to D*C:

There's also the community [livejournal.com profile] dragonconrooms that is a good place to start.
