Crafting Meetup

Sorry I haven’t gotten back to this thread in so long. Anyways, someone on the Alternate History track invited us to attend their version of a craft meetup on SUNDAY morning at 10 am. There is a panel/room devoted to it.

A group of 10 or so met up last year at Pulse, the Marriott’s bar, but there was barely any room to sit- we were at the high top tables by the bar. I think there are some armchairs in the vicinity that we could grab.

I want to gauge your opinions on meeting at the AltHistory panel for crafting or having a separate event. My DC schedule is relatively flexible so I have time to devote to making us visible (a poster, stickers, passing out invites the day before, tshirts, what-have-you) and could put together a separate event, but we’re not guaranteed a workspace.

Sooo… I throw this out to y’all and what interests you more.

Here’s the poll:

1. Alt History panel vs. other space (please offer an idea if you choose other)
2. Preference of Con day (Th-Mon)/time of day
3. Interested in swag? Stickers, tshirts, etc. (It’s easy to get stickers; tshirts may be $5 depending on who I use)
4. Thursday night meet 'n greet to exchange contact info so people can meet new crafters & hang out over the weekend.

I’m really excited about trying this sort of thing. I wish I’d been more proactive about this earlier in the year. I’ll certainly be better about getting things together for DC 2011.

Hi, I was the one who offered up space on the AH Track. It's 10 AM on Sunday morning in the Westin (International C). There will be some organized craftiness going on, but the more the merrier. :)

I plan on coming to the AH craft panel regardless of whether there is another meetup. I realize on a second reading that this post may come off kind of hostile and competitive with the AH panel, but that isn't my intention at all. I've just heard requests for other days/times and wanted to give y'all some promotion as well. I just wanted to see if a group of people want to start making this an annual group meetup. And if we all end up going to the AH panel, then it works out great!

I will be doing my best to get to this, depending on whether or not it conflicts with something else...and if I can get up by then...I'm in a room of night-owls, so cons tend to be late night/sleep in affairs (me, I work 6am-3pm, so I'm more used to mornings than nights, but I adapt to the room at cons)

I'm bringing some cross stitch, maybe some jewlery making stuff, and enough basics to show the general idea of "silk screening on a budget" (but don't think I'll actually be able to demo it, since it involves a fair bit of "drying time")

Woot! I think a Thursday meetup is great and I love the Sunday morning time. I'll also be glad to help out in anyway. As will @mistyg (she was there with me last year) Wonder if she and I could work up some quick amigurumis to give away..... Send me a DM or email with how I can help you out!

For sanity's sake I think I'll make a firm decision by tomorrow night based on comments from the LJ community & a post a made on Ravelry so that I can start getting swag and printed info ready by next weekend. I'm going to need help promoting the events in this short amount of time before the Con & maybe get a core group together to start planning an event for next year or even 2012.

I've been so bad about updating my blog but I think all this may warrant a post to have a source for all the information. If you want to add something to your blog as well later this week when we have time/place info that would be super!

The Daily Dragon Online is now publishing material for the 2010 event. You might be able to get something published there to get the word out.
