Question about reservation confirmations

I was one of the lucky people (it seems) able to get the full deal reservation at the Marriott yesterday (Thurs-Mon, 2 double beds, etc). I got an email confirming my reservation, along with an acknowledgment number to keep for my records, etc etc. I had previously booked at the Hyatt in case I didn't get in at the Marriot; once I did, I promptly put my Hyatt reserve up for grabs over at dragonconrooms . Someone expressed interest in it and the transfer was made this morning.

Now, after talking to some people I feel like I made a mistake transferring that Hyatt room. Apparently the acknowledgment number is meaningless and you aren't guaranteed a room until you get a confirmation number? I'm actually kind of upset now and paranoid that sometime in July when my deposit is due I'll find out I don't have a room after all, or something.

I booked at the Hyatt through Passkey as well on September 10th and got an acknowledgment email and number from them, but never a confirmation number.

The mail I got from Marriott states that anyone with an acknowledgment number will have their reservation honored regardless. What should I believe? Is anyone else as nervous as I am right now? Did I just screw myself over? :(

What deposit? We've stayed at the Marriott for the past six years and we've never paid a deposit of any kind.

I haven't heard of anyone who got a "confirmation number" rather than or in addition to the instant email acknowledgement of a reservation from Passkey. Who are these people you've been talking to? I'd be really surprised if there was some special secret secondary qualifier required to get an "actual" reservation.
