Hotel Reservation fiasco

Due to a not entirely expected pregnancy, we had to cancel our reservations at the Atlanta Hilton. The DragonCon website said we'd get a refund as long as it was more than 48 hrs before the con. Well they refused to refund us. First they told us we'd have to contact DragonCon to cancel, then they wouldn't refund at all.
This ticked us off as you might imagine. We are long standing gold club members and all, but they wouldn't budge on giving our deposit back. After 30 min on the phone arguing, a more senior rep was able to contact their room management dept. and it seems some else had emailed asking for a room just before us. They then told us since they would be able to sell our rooms to them, that now we'd get our deposit back. Sheesh. They even said they were concerned that they would have an empty room for DCon. YEAH RIGHT. I call shenanigans! Anyway, I hope no one else has to encounter this problem, but if you do, maybe get someone to transfer the reservation to first? Good luck and wish I could be there with you all.
