Post any meetup/party info in comments and I'll get a compiled list. Post info even if the event has been previously posted in the community.

If you could, please dont post any flyers or graphics or other extraneous stuff or info in the comments. Just type up the what, where, when, any relevant links, and any special details(such as 18+ or 21+ only, invite only, dress code, etc.). Save any extra stuff behind your link(s). That will make keeping the list updated a lot easier.

I had but misplaced the link over in cosplay.com for the meetup list there(welcome to the past few weeks for me). I'll post a first list tomorrow and include the link if someone could put it in the comments. More stuff tomorrow.

Thanks everyone.

I don't remember seeing anyone post about this so far, but are there any LOST meetups this year? I remember there was supposed to be one last year that I couldn't make, but I hadn't heard of anything for this year. I'll be with a small but epic LOST costume group Saturday and another one on Sunday afternoon and was hoping there were some get togethers going on.

Hi everyone.

I’m attending Dragon*Con for the second year, and have decided to venture out beyond the hotels a little this time around. I’m planning to do the World of Coca Cola, Aquarium, and if I have time, Centennial Park as well since they’re close together.

What I’d like to check from those who know the area better than I is if it’s doable to walk to these? They don’t look too far away on the map, and I’m not opposed to a walk but obviously not if it’s a lot farther than I think.

My questions therefore are:
1. How long do you think it’ll take to walk there? Is the walk uphill (a vast amount of Atlanta seems to be from what I’ve seen so far).

2. Is it okay to walk there? I don’t imagine it’s a dodgy neighbourhood but thought it best to check before heading out.

3. Is there anything else I should know?

If anyone could help me with these I’d be very grateful. Thanks!

There was a rumor circulating that one could already make reservations for next year. I tracked a number of people down for answers, and here's the information that I gathered as of two minutes ago:

- The block is not open yet. Neither are regular room reservations for that time next year.

- The block and regular room reservations for those dates are currently not scheduled to open until October 15 2010 at 9AM. Apparently having reservations available so early last year resulted in bugs and misinformation (which I at least experienced first hand), and they want to make sure that doesn't happen again.

Speculations:

I'm just guessing, but they may realize that having to book before the con one year in order to get a room the next year is not great, and they may be trying to make that less likely and expand the block or something for this year. Also this gives the people who won't get to attend this year a fighting chance at having a good room next year.

Also also, it may cut down on "just in case" bookings filling up the slots early and preventing people who know they'll be there from making reservations... I imagine quite a few people saw that they could make reservations early during the con last year and went into Optimism/Panic mode and booked right away so they'd have a slot if they wanted to go. If people have to sit down and remember to call to book their reservation after the con high has worn off, the "just in case" group is likely to shrink dramatically, which is good for both attendees and the hotel.

They may also be steering away from PASSKEY, though I have zero confirmation of that.

I hope that helps!

Hey all,

I was just wondering how many Asatruars were going to the con. Anyone want to get together and make a few toasts?

Last call! alternativeXchange is starting the pack for DragonCon! If there is anything specific anyone wants please let me know by this weekend. We will be bringing very little of the Ebay inventory, so take a look and let us know if you want us to pull anything to have on hand at Dragon: http://stores.ebay.com/alternativeXchange

Feel free post here or send a message through either LJ or Ebay for the item you would like to have set aside. Thanks!

First off, HOLY CRAP EVERYONE! It's almost time!!

Now that we have that out of the way...
I was just thinking it would be awesome for everyone to share their wacky, zany, and ungodly ideas for crazy Cosplay costumes that (to your current knowledge) have never been done/should never be made/etc.

For example...combining two characters that would never match (or would match in some hilarious way) or something that people would see, slowly shake their heads, and exit the 10 mile radius area surrounding you.

Some of MY ideas?

Wash from Firefly/Serenity with a huge spear/stick protruding from the chest (Leaves on the Wind optional)
An Edward Cullen costume that turns into fire when placed in direct sunlight (Ladies, please don't attack me for making fun)
A Kate Hudson costume that has huge boobs (Talk about your 'Never gonna happen')

Either a photo op, or trying to get the most together or something like that??  I tried to go back and find where it was posted, (even looking at the tags etc) but atlas, I know when to give up and just ask.  Anyone point me in the correct direction??

thank you

Does anyone know when and where the Anime Contest is? The site doesnt tell you anything other than come by the room to sign up. Also where is the Left 4 Dead tournament being held? And do you have to pay ahead of time? or just sign up normally?

I've had a bit of a Really Bad Day (you know, what usually causes supervillains) every day since Saturday.

The local hub for my ISP got hit by lightning and fried.  I still have no home internet.  They're trying to fix it as fast as they can but no ETA on that.

Meanwhile, my grandmother's left her body and the body hasn't finished noticing yet.

Could someone take over tagging the naked posts for a few days?  I'm not sure how often I'm going to be able to get to an internet cafe for the next week or so, and of all the things to be laying awake worrying about, this is  the one my brain has settled on!  My life and schedule might be chaotic, but apparently what I need to keep organized is the Dragon*Con crowdsourcing.

Thank you kindly, cousins!  There's almost always a couple wanting "ticket/badge transfers" and a minimum of one that needs the "scheduling" tag plus a track tag.  Oh, and two or three awesome bits of news about guests and parties.  And now that it's crunch times, I expect an upswing on "when should I line up Thursday for my badge?" (registration) and some FAQs and a boatload of "for sale"s!

Hey guys, I've searched for this and can't find the answer. I know most people will be coming from out of town and arriving Thursday at various times in the afternoon, making it easy to check in to their hotels and unload their belongings. But what about those of us checking in on Friday?

Does anyone know if there is any method of the hotels holding our luggage until the rooms are ready? I want to get to D*C bright and early Friday morning, but I hesitate because I don't want to carry bags around with me all day. Leaving it in the car is not an option either, as I will be parking at MARTA or getting a ride. I seem to recall someone saying some hotels have a storage area where they can keep your stuff until you're free to claim your room. If so, does anyone know if this is secure? I'm staying at the Marriott - does anyone have experience with this issue who has stayed at that hotel?

Thanks for your input and help!

We were going to give a friend of ours a ride with us to try to save some money on gas/parking this year, but it turns out that now he can't make it.

Since I went through all the trouble of figuring out how to bring a third person in our Honda Civic, it seems a shame to have that effort go to waste now, so I'm opening up the option of giving a ride to someone else.

We are leaving at exactly 3AM Thursday morning for Atlanta, and will be returning on Tuesday, leaving Atlanta around noon. There will be room to bring a carry-on sized suitcase and a laptop bag of some sort, but not much else (though there should be plenty of leg room). We'd prefer to pack the bags on Wednesday so that we don't have to mess with it in the dark when we leave. We'd like $60 towards our gas/parking.

If you would like a ride, or if you have a very full vehicle of people already and are interested in forming some sort of caravan and switching a member into our vehicle for a little extra space, please e-mail me at [LJusername]@gmail.com.

(I may be the last to know so sorry if this information is old news.)

I read this on the D*Con Facebook page and confirmed that it does say it on the Daily Dragon site as well.

"The Daily Dragon just tweeted that prereg badge pickup will start @ 10am on Thursday. That will go along way towards thinning those long lines out by spreading them over several additional hours."

This was posted Saturday 8/21 in the evening. Is this definite?

Artistry may come naturally, but skill you need to learn, and the D*CIS Film Festival's Film School is here to teach film making skill. The seven sessions over all four days of the convention will cover various technical topics of filmmaking and are listed on our schedule here.

Hi all,

The Sweeney Todd to my Mrs. Lovett just bought an old school straight razor on E-Bay and it is sharp (eeeeek).  He is DEFINITELY going to blunt the blade so that isn't a problem, and I've told him that he probably shouldn't do any open-armed, open-razored Sweeney Todd photo poses in crowded areas, so precautions will be taken.  However, does the razor need to be peace bound?  Any other precautions you'd recommend?  This is the first experience either of us have with any sort of "weapon" at a con, particularly an item such as this, so all cautionary advice is most welcome.

Thanks!!!

Has there been any news on a Disney costume photoshot for this year's con?
Going to have one for it this year, so would like to try and get in on it if I can.
