While driving home late last night from an aborted Vegas trip, I got to thinking about D*C. My husband and I are increasingly sensitive and intolerant of cigarette smoke, to the point that after 36 hours in a non-smoking room in a very nice hotel/casino in Vegas, we simply couldn’t take it anymore and checked out early and drove home in the middle of the night, rather than even wait for the sun to come up.
So this experience got me to wondering about the smoking situation at D*C. This year will be our first D*C, and our first non-work-related major convention. Obviously it’s not at all the same set up of having to walk through the smoky casino to get anywhere, but being realistic I know that people will be smoking at D*C. My question to you, the community, is how best to keep our sensitive noses away from it?
We have a non-smoking room booked at the Hyatt, and I plan on requesting a tower room, since it’ll be just the two of us and while we want to be near the action of the Hyatt we also want to be away from the noise. How is the smoking situation there? Are any of the other host hotels better when it comes to non-smoking areas? What areas do smokers tend to congregate in and what are the best ways around those areas? Any other tips for those sensitive to smoke?
Thanks in advance, and happy to finally have the smell out of her hair,
