Great Con this year (my 4th year)!! Can't wait until next year

Does anyone else think that the Hyatt checkout was even WORSE this year than previously?

I thought it couldn't get any worse! ARGH!

At least in the past you could take your 500# of crap to the bellhops and they would schlep it downstairs or you could do it yourself and pick it up at the street entrance later. But this year they wanted YOU to schlep your OWN crap down to the bowels of the International tower, THEN go BACK down there get it yourself to bring it to the front for load out! WTF?

I swear, what is WRONG with these ppl? This year there's a new front of the house guy, that annoying tall dude named Mohamed. When we pulled up to check in, he cheerfully informed us that we'd probably not have a room - which of course led to me threatening to KILL HIM on the spot. THEN when the stupidity of bag storage/check out came up, I had the joy of trying to communicate with him, a non english speaker, AGAIN! He had no frelling idea what I meant when I said "drive my car to the side street and pick up my bags". He kept saying, "oh, NO, that is illegal!". I said, "Excuse me? Driving my car to the doors of the storage area to pick up my bags is ILLEGAL?" To which he says, "What? Oh, I am talking about the CARTS! Letting you borrow a bellhop cart is illegal." I said, "NO, I SAID C-A-R-S, AS IN AUTOMOBILES? I don't want your stupid CART!". He said, "Oh, I don't know anything about that". I said, "Yah, I can tell!". Jeebus.

The Hyatt has the best overall customer service of any hotel I've ever stayed in, but the buffoons that run the front are just sad. That Mohamed guy not only cannot understand english, but he is completely clueless about anything to do with the Con. Do these people not have training? Having a 10 minute conversation only to find out that the asshat you've been talking to has no idea what you're saying is SO FRUSTRATING! Why do they hire such obvious incompetents? And when they do, why do they not TELL THEM ABOUT DRAGONCON AND WHAT HAS WORKED IN THE PAST? The bag pickup from the street side of the ballroom was brilliant. You pull up, get your crap, stuff the truck and drive away. What is so frelling difficult to understand about that? I made it a point to walk by there as I went to get the truck and sure enough, the street was empty and the doors closed. What a bunch of absolute morons. BAH. The wait for a bellhop was 2+ hours this year, which was as bad or worse than last year. Are they going to fix it or what?

Yes, yes, calls are being made and emails being sent, but for frell's sake, I've stayed there for 5 years!! And they are getting worse rather than better. The Con seemed to run better this year overall than it ever had, other than that moron Mohamed stirring ppl up for no reason, but they still cannot for the life of them figure out how to get ppl checked out, store luggage and then allow luggage pickup.

So, that's my 2ยข about the Hyatt. They totally rawk for service when you're there, but gods help you for check in and out. Checking out is the 9th ring of hell.

was it just me
or was it they were all i the gaming arrea (which i didn't venture into)

I was the Oni with the giant kabuki fans running around...perhaps you saw me. Perhaps you took pictures of me. I would like to see those pictures because I only had one taken of me on my own camera.

Also...anybody interested in learning how to dance with a giant fan? I'm looking for people to join me onstage at the Masquerade next year so I don't have to go it again all by myself...alone...sniff...

As for the whole party thing....
As you all may know, large gatherings of people mixed with alcohol can usually result in Spontaeneous Combustion, which let me tell you folks is not a pretty thing.
Why, if we were to allow people to throw parties, the whole hotel might go up in flames! WE WERE SAVED THIS YEAR, FOLKS, LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING! That brave, brave Fire Marshal, he knew the danger that people and booze present! Why, if enough alcohol filled our bodies we might even start ENJOYING OURSELVES!
THANK you, Mr. Fire Marshal, for watching out for us! Once again, we had a safe and almost mundane event! Keep up the hard work!

BRING BACK THE DAMN PARTY FLOOR!

Hi folks...

I did a stupid on Saturday night after the Dawn Look-a-Like contest, about 11ish or so. I was going into my room and while scrambling with my stuff, I managed to accidentally leave my mask prop in the hallway by our room. I only realized I did this the next day, but I know the last time I had it was when I was getting off the Hyatt elevator on the way to our room. We were in room 601, right by the elevator lobby, so we didn't have to go far.

My guess is that someone picked it up and thought "ooh, shiny!", or maybe turned it in to the hotel. I need to follow up on a call to the Hyatt that I made, so I've already started that part of the process, but I thought I'd put this out to my fellow con attendees, particularly those wandering in the hallways around that time.

The mask is silver with only eyes and no mouth, has black ribbon ties and black tears on the left eye. A photo can be found here.

While I could make a replacement if needed, I admit I'd like to find this one again. So if you are able to help a gal out, it'd be quite awesome. Thanks!
[identity profile] okkitten.livejournal.com
Okay, I finally got all my pictures put up, most are myself and my roomies in our costumes, but there are quite a few of other people too, so enjoy!

Hey, all.

I am going to post the few pictures that I have from the con soon, but I only have one or two of myself and am vainly hoping people have pictures of my groups that they are willing to share.

Friday night, I was Evey with V from V for Vendetta. I was wearing the orange prison dress. (I am the girl who actually got a buzz cut just for the convention.)

And Saturday night, I was Dorothy with the Wizard of Oz group that had the Wicked Witch and the two Winkies.

I would be really appreciative of any pictures anyone could share.

Thanks!

Also, I'm looking for any good pictures of the pair of Nox on Saturday or of God on Sunday.  Unfortunately mine didn't turn out so well.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the people that took my picture and complemented me on my costumes. I worked really hard this year and juggling costuming and baby was rough. The appreciation goes a long way :) Very special thanks for the group "Awwww" that we got during the Dawn contest. It makes me feel all fuzzy inside.

Thanks and see you next year!

So at D*Con '05, on sunday, I found a little pirate pistol someone had lost. It was plastic, the kind of thing you pic up at a costume shop. I took it home and this year, it became part of my not-authentic-or-impressive pirate outfit (Of which I have no pictures).

While in the Hyatt concourse bathroom, I took it out of my belt to better answer natures call and then got into a discussion with someone about how Metal DragonCon was. I left my pistol in the bathroom and realized about half an hour later.

It returned to Con.

So if you found it, know that I don't want it back. I would like to know where it ends up and I ask that you bring back to Con to see if it gets lost again and finds it's way into other hands.

It'll be a tradition.

Peace.

Did you see Rose Tyler at Dragon*Con '06? Could you please link me to some of the photos? I would love to see them.

Also dressed as Pirate Elizabeth Swann from PotC2 for Friday, and a bit at the Pirate Party. Not many pictures, but I looked liked this (click for bigger picture):

Would love to see photos of either or. :D thanks!

Sorry, another of *those* posts...

I was a Blood Elf (NOT the one with the quest exclaimation on her head), and was at the con on Friday and Saturday.

Anyone have pics? :)

Also, I had a blast. I've never been to a con (let alone one as hella huge as Dragon*Con). I'm already trying to figure out what costumes I'm going to make for next year.

P.S. The Narnia Snow Queen costumes kicked some serious ass.
[identity profile] scarletmorbidia.livejournal.com
great weekend, great people...where the hell were all the parties, though?

anyways, did you meet me? if so, toss me a line. i'd love to hear from you.
also, you know, pictures are fantastic, too.

mainly, it was nice to meet people.
sorry if my costume malfunctioned near or upon you, too.

Let me know if you want any removed; however, there are shouldn't be any that are too naughty. I'll be happy to email you large size files that you request.

Of course, it was teh best con evar, again. I'm looking for pics of our Snakes on a Plane costumes:

I was a "flight attendant" while [livejournal.com profile] djsporkradio was a pilot being attacked by a snake. If you have any of us, please let me know. :D

Thanks!

Hey guys, I am wanting to go ahead and start on my costume for next year but its gonna require me to learn a new skill.

I was wondering if anyone knew any really good resources that could teach me how to mold something akin to a plastic smooth Breastplate?
[identity profile] bevander.livejournal.com
Hey everyone:  If you have any pictures of the Buffy Horror Picture Show (the musical), please PLEASE let me know.  Even if they're sitting in your camera and haven't been uploaded yet, just letting us know you have them would be fantastic:  Our friend in the audience had technical difficulties and as of now, we have none.

I was Spike (as played by Angel) in the first show.  If you snapped some pictures of my costumes or my group during the Con, that'd be great, but we are dying for some Buffy Horror pics more than anything else.  PLEASE, help us and share...or a puppy will die.  A cute puppy.

Thank you so much, I know this community is flooded with picture requests right now, but the cast worked very hard to put on the show and we are jonesing for pictures.  Hope everyone had as much fun at the Con as we did :)

I got inspired^^
[identity profile] keely-graesser.livejournal.com
Ok, I'm following the trend. If you happened to see any of the following and snap a shot please let me know!

Friday: Kaylee from Firefly with a Mal, Zoe and Wash
Saturday: Aeryn Sun from Farscape with two Crichtons, Chiana and sometimes a D'argo
Sunday: Blink from X-men with a Nocturne, Beast, Cyclops and movie Psylocke. Also, ANY pictures from the x-men photoshoot would be appreciated.

My Blink costume is in my avatar and the other two are in the icons below:

THANKS!

This may come as a shock to everyone, but I'm looking for pictures of myself.   *gasp!*

I know, unheard of right?

On Friday I was a fallen angel with big red/black wings
  kind of like this.
Edit: the fallen angel was Saturday during the day, not on Friday.

Saturday night I was following the Blue Man Group and wouldn't mind seeing more pics of them, as funny as thier antics were.

On Sunday I was Sephiroth from Advent Children.

If anyone has any pictures (or finds any) please let me know?

Cheers mates!

Beautiful women in sultry clothes bellydancing? Why wasn't I ever informed? And here I had always avoided the Dragon*Con drum circle. "Hang out with a bunch a hippies? Not a chance in hell," were my exact words, I think. But then I check it out and was amazed. There were several bellydancers from Alabama (go figure, right?) who were both talented and pretty. Is there anything like this in Atlanta? A few more in my Dragon*Con '06 Flickr Set

You could probably recite the post from memory at this point . . .

If anyone has pics blah blah blah or more importantly, met me/hung out with me and I didn't get your contact info, holler. And if anyone knows a good trick for getting rid of red eye using Adobe Photoshop (9.0.1,) for the love of Christ please tell me. I look possessed.

Hello everyone,

This is not a request for photos of me at DragonCon. (I wasn't there this year. ::insert pout here::)

I have a copyright question and I'm thinking someone here might have a bit of knowledge on the subject.

If I were to draw a picture of a recognizable sci-fi icon, for an off the wall example a Dalek, and incorporate it into a T-shirt design to possibly sell would I be breaking copyright laws?

(I ask because I've seen several individuals do "fan" art but I've never been sure of the copyright issues attached to that particular section of the field seeing as I've not drawn fan art.)

Thank you for your assistance. And yes this is cross-posted slightly.

So I only did one real costume, and got one crappy pic of it...Ultraviolet. If you took my pic please I'd love copies!

AND Friday night while hubby was wearing his plaid kilt his lovely kilt pin fell off. In the wild event anyone picked up a amethyst thistle pin about 3 inches long...he is very sad to have lost it, and we'd love to get it back.

Great Con! I'm already planning for next years costumes. I met a few of ya'll, it was great!

My pics are here: http://www.aileo.com/alesia/dc06/dc06.html
I'm in most of them, and there aren't as many as most...I wish I would have taken more!

Hi all,
I was wandering around on Sunday night with Jaques the monkey, a friend's blow-up monkey doll that I brought to the con with me because said friend is lame and wouldn't drive down with us - so I had to take pictures to show him what he was missing.

When the friend saw the pictures, he made his own special page about Jaques' adventures, and since some of you had your picture taken with him, it's viewable here. (Keep in mind this was Sunday night - not all of these are pictures you want to look at at work)

All of the pictures I took are at this snapfish site, but you have to login to snapfish to view them. Accounts are free, you just need to give them your email addy.

Hope everyone had fun!

Just to debunk any of the things floating out in the rumor mill.

Yes there was a jumper at the Marriott Monday night.
No he was not part of Dragon Con.
Yes he jumped from the second story.
No he did not die and is alive and reasonably well.

This word comes directly from the Head of Security for the Marriott.

I am relatively new to Flickr and while I have easily three times this number of photos... to make things simple I just picked out the best of the bunch. This is mostly from the X-Men photoshoot on Sunday morning.

Here ya go :D

Oh... and if anyone has any GOOD ones of me and the Magneto I'd love it to bits :) I'm the X-3 Phoenix in most of these (the short one, if 5'9" is short).

Hey, I usually stay in the Marriott, but I've never gotten up to the suites on the top levels. My friends tell me they're very nice. Did anyone get any pictures of the rooms that are more descriptive than the odd shots at the Marriott website? How does the size compare to the standard rooms? I've heard they have a separate sleeping area and refrigerator. Does the couch fold out into a bed? Does the Marriott have any guidelines for how many people stay in each suite? And most importantly I suppose, how much do they normally cost? Thanks,

Hello all! This past weekend was my second time at DragonCon and I had a total blast except for one problem... no camera. Since my friends were the only ones with cameras and are far too lazy to actually send me any of the pictures, I'd like to know if anyone has any pictures of me in my little red riding hood outfit (complete with severed wolf head!). As far as I know this is the only existing picture of me:

BTW, I am also looking for pics of my mom's costume- she was one of the Dr. Girlfriends.
Her costume was the backless dress from "Hate Floats"... it was a brighter pink than the other Dr. Girlfriends.
