at the door memberships

I looked around the website a bit and through this community and didn't see the answer, although i admit i didn't look very hard. but it really seemed like it should have been more obvious.
anyway, i decided that i was not going to attend dragon con this year. and of course the closer it gets, the more i find myself wavering.
a couple years back, i waited until the last minute too, and i went saturday only and i got there at about 8am and i ended up standing in line for about 5 hours, in the process missing a lot of things that i wanted to see. SO..

what time do the doors open for buying 1 day passes on saturday morning? basically, i am asking what time they open officially, AND what time people start lining up. i want to make sure i dont miss anything this time because of that ridiculous line

i don't really have the cash now otherwise i would just buy a full membership and be done with it.

anyway, thanks in advance for your help!

The doors open at 8 am, and the line usually starts around 5:30 am

My husband got down there last year at 7am and was through at about 9am. There may be more folks this year though 'cause of Nimoy and Stewart coming. Good luck!!

i'm totally game for standing in line at the crack of dawn. my boyfriend on the other hand, is not. is there any way that i can pick up his badge too? it would make the line one person shorter ;)

oops, sorry. i just found my answer in the D*C wiki. But when it says you have to have "a copy of their identification and written permission to do so" do I just need a handwritten note with his signature? i just want to make sure i have all my ducks in a row!

Picking up another's badge

I did this for friends last year. I had a color copy (don't know that matters - it was just clearer than b/w) of their driver's license and a handwritten note on that copy: "I authorize (Insert your name) to pick up my badge" and had them sign it. Had no problems - other than having to switch lines because of different first letter of last names.

If you want a full weekend pass for next year, the best price is when you pick up your badge this year. It'll be ridiculously inexpensive. Doesn't help you for this year, tho. ;)

yea, i tell myself every year i'm going to buy my pass for the following year while at con and i just dont do it. maybe i will just go there to buy next years pass! lol... and then smuggle myself into the con under someones costume...hmm yes a plan is forming. hehe, i kid i kid...
