Please note that I did not write this, but I just found it on-line. The opinions, reviews, and directions are provided by the author of the guide, as I only go downtown abt once a year, so I'm hoping the info is accurate. I don't know who wrote it, as there doesn't seem to be a name attached.

Call ahead and check the info w/ the restaurants themselves.

Hey!  If anyone needs transportation from Jacksonville, FL to the con and back - I have Megabus tickets that I won't be using. I paid 33.50 total, but if money's an issue, I'll give them away for free. It leaves Thurs morning, and comes back Monday afternoon.

Email me at my user name @gmail if you're interested.

RL is a PITA at the moment, hence the late post. I'm linking to last year's post w/ the 2 links here:

As always, suggestions, updates, corrections, additions, subtractions are welcomed! I'll edit asap and give credit, of course. :)

This is Miyah Sundermeyer again and I am posting a vlog on youtube for people coming to Dragon Con for the first time.  I had some tips.

[identity profile] summer-1981.livejournal.com
Hi everyone:
As I said before I am working on a series of vlogs on youtube.  Every year I like to do a series of episodes at Dragon Con.  I have been promoting my blogs on twitter and facebook.  I am also starting to promote them on this communities because it revolves around the above.   So here is a link to my latest information on Dragon Con.

Andy Teal, who runs the Pyrdon Academy board for the Doctor Who'verse costumers/cosplayers who hang out at Dragoncon (march in the parade, have video-and-photoshoots, a big group dinner, etc.) and other cons, has an appeal for any DW, SJA, and TW fans and costumers in the Atlanta area right now, and any DW'verse fans and cosplayers who are arriving early for Dragoncon next week: basically they need help finishing up the parade float.

If you are a DW'verse costumer and attend Dragoncon, please consider joining the Pyrdon Academy board here:
http://www.prydonacademy.com/ . It's free and takes only a minute to sign up. Once you are on the PA board you can contact Andy direct about helping in the Dragoncon Parade Float thread. There's a direct link below for those of you already on the PA board.

Under the cut, is Andy's request for help w/ the D*C parade float:

Hello everyone! First time DragonCon goer here.

I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences staying at the Holiday Inn Atlanta Capitol Conference Center, and getting to the host hotels?

Much appreciated.

I'm linking to my two con tips posts here. Please reply to the individual posts with any further suggestions, updates, changes in info, that sort of thing. :) As I see the replies, I'll edit the info into the post, with credit given as always. :)

I just read on MARTA'S Facebook page that Peachtree stations "Library" entrance is being reopened after more than 20 months.  Does anyone have any advice or information about this entrance and its relation to the Host Hotels?
[identity profile] mrcell.livejournal.com
I went downtown yesterday to check out the MARTA escalator situation. To me, it's not that big a deal. When you get off the train at the Peachtree Center station, go to the exit on the end of the platform marked "Harris Street". After going up a short escalator (or the elevator) and tapping your card/pass to go through the gates, you then go to the side for Peachtree Street West. You then either take the elevator on that side or get on an escalator that's not quite as long as the closed one on the other side. This escalator takes you up to another shorter escalator that takes you the rest of the way up to street level. You come out across the street from the Peachtree Center Food Court entrance, which is down the street a little bit to your left. The elevator on the Peachtree Street West side comes up on the other side of a small courtyard from the entrance to the escalator. If you want to go into the Mall Food Court, you go left about a quarter of a block up Peachtree Street to John Portman Boulevard (formerly Harris Street), cross Peachtree and then double back to the entrance. A MARTA employee was stationed there telling everyone that there was no access to the MARTA station from that entrance, so that elevator appears to be closed too. The only way I saw to get into the Food Court was by steps. Does anyone know how someone in a wheelchair or scooter would get in? I meant to ask on my way back out, but forgot to do it. (I'll be 60 in a couple of weeks and my memory isn't what it used to be.)

Taken No takers yet even though there has been some interest.  Was asking $350.  What about $300 (We pay transfer fee) or make us an offer we can't refuse?  Willing to transfer room at the Hyatt too.  Two bed room reservation..  Not offering the room reservation separately.  Alaska Airlines direct flight.  Leave Seattle Thursday morning at 8am (8/30/12), Leave Atlanta Monday 5pm (9/3/12).  Cheapest flight on Expedia was $448, just saying....

No takers yet on my companion ticket on Alaska Airlines for R/T to Dragoncon. Your cost: $350 for the plane ticket.  ALSO will either provide room/share (sharing with just 1 other person) or let you take over the room reservation for a 2 bed room at the Hyatt for Thurs - Sun nights. (Room costs totally separate from the airline ticket price)

Alaska Airline:  Leave Thursday, 8/30 and arrive Atlanta about 4pm,  Leave Atlanta, 9/3 at 5pm and arrive back in Seattle about 8:30 pm.  You do have to be on the same flight as me!

Room only goes with the ticket or I'll release it through Dragonconrooms on Livejournal.  Trying to be fair.

This is pretty unfortunate timing, but the escalator in the Peachtree Center MARTA Station won't be working during the con. I'd recommend using the one on the other side of the street near the Starbucks. Also, the 110 bus runs up and down Peachtree St. Though it has been rerouted by detour (as I discovered by being stranded one night). It now runs behind the Hyatt and then connects to Peachtree.
This is copied from MARTA's Facebook page:

On Wednesday, August 8, MARTA will close the two long escalators that serve the Food Court entrance via the Northeast concourse at our Peachtree Center st

Both long escalators will be taken out of service at the same time (August 8). The complete replacement and repair is expected to be finished by mid-October.

In the meantime, MARTA customers may use the Northwest exit (Post Office/AmericasMart) or elevator and exit the Peachtree Station on the sidewalk across the street from the Food Court.

Or, they may exit with the Southeast escalators or elevator and walk north on the same side of the street as the Food Court.

Signage and flyers are already in place.

We apologize for this inconvenience during this repair work.

When do we usually see the schedule for this posted?  I am waffling back and forth between a floorsleeping arrangement and just getting a room at the Airport Hilton for that one night.  Will it be running on Thursday?  My rough draft of a plan is get to hotel, dump metric butt-ton of stuff off, get ASAP down to grab badge, come back to room, die until early Friday morning, back to my REAL hotel, obtain room.  I am worried about my back going flobotsky from flooring it before things are really even well underway.

Yes, I know how far away the Airport Hilton is.  Yes, I know to use MARTA in a pinch.  No, I really have no other way to do this due to financial constraints.  It's just the one night.  Passkey can eat old moldy Navy bootcamp socks.

These tips are more specifically aimed at Dragoncon goers. :)

Again, if you have any tips, or spot anything that needs to be changed, please reply, and I will edit the post accordingly, and also give you credit. :)

Have a companion ticket as my husband was going to come with me this year as a special treat after cancer treatment.  Long story - treatment was delayed and he can't be among crowds/germs until much later this year.  Now have a companion ticket to be used in conjunction with mine.  Alaska Airlines direct flight, leave Thursday morning, return Monday evening.  Their website has current cost as about $450 per person, looking for $350 and we pay the change fee.
8/30/12  Flight 742 Sea to Atl  lv. 8:10 am,  Arr. 3:55 pm
9//3/12 Flight 741 Atl to Sea lv. 5:00 pm, Arr: 7:28 pm

May be able to work out some room accomodation as well (depending on compatability and working out arrangements with some other friends).  We're booked at the Hyatt.

You can email me at pinkyjean@aol.com

I usually drive myself to D*Con, but my car isn't what it usedto be and I no longer feel safe driving it so far. I'm coming from Columbus Ohio and crossing my fingers there are some people looking to share a ride :) I'm a 23 year old female, I only do light cosplay so one suit case will be all the space I take up. I'm able to pay my fair share of the gas and can bring snacks and such. If interested please respond to this on email me at tomoyochan83@gmail.com

What have been some of your experiences with driving to the con?  We've flown the last few years, and I'd rather not shell out three hundred dollars for a flight if I don't have to-the hotel is expensive enough.  It would actually be about half as much just to drive, even with parking.  We're booked at the Sheraton.  Has anyone done parking there?  What are some of the ins and outs we need to know?  I know it's going to be a bitch to get out of town Monday, but we're prepared for that.

Thanks, guys!

I plan to fly in from Massachusetts. I'm wondering if anyone has had good luck finding cheap flights.
I also and wondering how one gets to the con without a car from the airport. :)
