Hello everyone! First time DragonCon goer here.

I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences staying at the Holiday Inn Atlanta Capitol Conference Center, and getting to the host hotels?

Much appreciated.

Does anybody know if there is a habitrail path from the Ritz to Peachtree Center? Doesn't even have to be a direct or short route. Just looking for an "inside" path, if there is such a thing. If not, what's the nearest access to a habitrail that does go to Peachtree Center? Thanks!

Hi, I have a question about full hotel rooms. I am staying in a room of more than 3 other people and most hotel rooms are not that big.  My question, what would be the best solution to finding floor space so I am not fighting over space on the floor with other roommates?

I could use some suggestions and tricks that might help.

Boosting the signal from the dragonconrooms comm, this is abt a hotel changing hands!

"IMPORTANT: The Holiday Inn Express Buckhead has changed ownership and is now the Quality Suites Buckhead Village. All reservations made under former management will be honored. Unfortunately, during the conversion there was a problem with their reservations system. Because of this attendees will need to e-mail John Welch at johnw@wxhotels.com with their original reservation confirmation number and the dates of their arrival and departure to reconfirm their stay. Please take action immediately, as the hotel will open up available reservations in 7 - 10 days."

This was on the D*C FB page.

When do we usually see the schedule for this posted?  I am waffling back and forth between a floorsleeping arrangement and just getting a room at the Airport Hilton for that one night.  Will it be running on Thursday?  My rough draft of a plan is get to hotel, dump metric butt-ton of stuff off, get ASAP down to grab badge, come back to room, die until early Friday morning, back to my REAL hotel, obtain room.  I am worried about my back going flobotsky from flooring it before things are really even well underway.

Yes, I know how far away the Airport Hilton is.  Yes, I know to use MARTA in a pinch.  No, I really have no other way to do this due to financial constraints.  It's just the one night.  Passkey can eat old moldy Navy bootcamp socks.

Post here for last minute hotel needs and transfers.

Allowing hotel room transfer needs here since [livejournal.com profile] dragonconrooms will be shutting down Thursday. Despite that, crosspost your hotel needs there as well.

Since the deadline for badge transfers has long passed no need to bother with posting any.

I got the news a couple days ago. Myself, and two other con-goers, have been moved to the Omni Hotel due to the renovations at the Hyatt.

In a bid to make the best out of this shit storm of inconvenience, I want to see how many others here are in the same boat.

So, post here if you were moved from the Hyatt. What are your plans for transportation? Any con plans changing as a result of this? Is there an Omni meet-up planned?

Also - perks of the move: A good chunk off of the cost of our rate this year ( we are saving about $200) - guaranteed room next year + same rate for the room in 2012.

Are any plans Dragon*con tv broadcasted in Omni Center hotel? I just want to be mentally prepared just in/when I get potentially displaced along with a 100 other reservations from my Hyatt. I must admit 50% of the reason I booked a room in a con hotel was for that added benefit of watching popular events from the comfort of my bed. Im guessing no, but I can be hopefully optomistic. Was just curious.

So the Hyatt is going from volunteers to go to the omni to moving you without any say to the Omni, anyone else getting phone calls like this?

I'm going to be taking a nearly 1 year old with me- she's the reason I'm missing this year :). Which hotel do parents prefer? Is it better to stay at a place like the Ritz, where it's close enough to walk but somewhat quieter? Or would the Hilton, Sheraton or Weston be better bets?
[identity profile] tonyalittegirl.livejournal.com
So I have a reservation at the Holiday Inn Capital Conference Center but I am looking for something closer to the conference because one of the people coming with me will be in a wheelchair/scooter and the Holiday Inn informs me that their shuttle is not handicapped assessable.  After looking on travel sites I have found the Quality Inn in Downtown Atlanta that is a few blocks away from the convention easily walkable or wheelable in their case.  Has anyone stayed at this hotel before? What is the neighborhood like?  Is it really not that far of a walk? Any information on your experience there would be fantastic.  Thanks guys :)

I quite literally just bought my membership for this year's DragonCon and my hands are shaking I'm so nervous/excited.

Quick question though, what exactly goes on at the Guest of Honour Banquet? Is it worth it to go?

I'm traveling all the way from BC, Canada by myself and I'm hoping to chat with a few people prior to going so I'm not completely alone all weekend. This is my first convention by myself (last two I went with family friends) and it's my first in another country.

Also if anyone is looking for a roommate or has some space on their floor, keep me in mind! I'm perfectly alright with a blanket, pillow and a floor. I'm quiet, non-smoker, sadly not legally able to drink in the US, and I'm a ridiculously polite Canadian. I'm a 20 year old woman so I'm not sure I'd be comfortable rooming with guys, sorry!

Any advice for newbie to DragonCon would also be appreciated! My only other con-experience is Salute to Supernatural in Vancouver 2009/2010.

ADDED: About to book my airline tickets. Flying from Seattle to Atlanta. Is there a shuttle to and from the airport and hotel?

I have a couple of friends coming this year, their first time. They are trying to find somewhere to stay. They don't mind travelling in to the con, but are looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful. Could anyone give me any ideas to pass onto them.

Many thanks!

What's the deal with the Best Western Atlanta Airport East ?  A kind someone posted info on this hotel a few days ago that it still has rooms available for next weekend.  I'm not sure about this hotel, so if anyone has some good intel on this location it'd be a boon !
Also, anyone have any good intel on the Extended Stay Deluxe on 3967 Peachtree ?  I already have reservations there, but just curious as to why this hotel is already booked up, versus the Best Western Airport East which is still available for the same dates.  The ES Deluxe is about 9 miles away from Downtown, while this Best Western is about 6 miles away and it reputedly has 24hr. shuttle service to MARTA.  Thanks all.
[identity profile] tnightshade.livejournal.com

Although the Best Western Atlanta Airport East is not on the DC website as an overflow hotel it is offering a shuttle to Convention.  There are still rooms left.  The phone number is 404-763-8777 if anybody need a room.

FYI, from today's AJC:

Three metro Atlanta hotels to close, change course

"The Wyndham Garden Hotel and Baymont Inn and Suites on Piedmont Avenue are expected to close sometime during the middle of August while Marriott's Renaissance Hotel on West Peachtree Street has announced it is laying off 142 employees in anticipation of closing later this year."

For more go to article online or look under the cut. Also, see a map showing the hotels, all close to D*C, here.
