I heard today that the tunnels connecting the Hyatt and the Marriott and the Hyatt and the food court will all be one way during the convention, counter clockwise, which I assume means that when using them you must go out through the tunnel toward the Hyatt and to return you must go from the food court to the Hyatt. Do I have that right? Anyone else heard about this? Did this make any sense at all?

The Hyatt opened up  a block of rooms today due to yesterday being the last day for cancellations. Just letting people know just in case at this very late date someone still needed a room or wanted to change from overflow to host.   I think they said they had approx. 30is rooms available.

*****BUT I have a question about parking , last year I parked at a parking garage at the end of the street from the Hyatt, if you walk out the front it was to the right.  they charged 18 a night.  Does anyone know the name of this garage and / or are they still charging 18 a night or has the rate gone up???   anyone who has knowledge of this garage could you give some info please.
thanks

Does anyone know the 2013 Hyatt Passkey link for use tomorrow?

I discovered a couple of years ago that, for a single $10 monthly subscription fee that could be turned off at any time, Boingo Wireless would get me online in the hotels and airports I was going to be in for Dragon*Con, where I'd otherwise have to pay separately.

Boingo works in the Atlanta Marriott Marquis and the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, as well as in the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta Airport and many of the connecting airports I travel through. So, I could pay $78 to the Marriott for six days of Wi-Fi connectivity, plus whatever fees are charged at the Detroit and Atlanta airports during my sojourns there, or I could just pay Boingo $10. Not a tough choice. You should join me. (No, sadly, I don't get any benefit from you signing up from Boingo, other than the warm glow of helping someone save their money for something better than handing it to the Marriott or Hyatt.)

No takers yet on my companion ticket on Alaska Airlines for R/T to Dragoncon. Your cost: $350 for the plane ticket.  ALSO will either provide room/share (sharing with just 1 other person) or let you take over the room reservation for a 2 bed room at the Hyatt for Thurs - Sun nights. (Room costs totally separate from the airline ticket price)

Alaska Airline:  Leave Thursday, 8/30 and arrive Atlanta about 4pm,  Leave Atlanta, 9/3 at 5pm and arrive back in Seattle about 8:30 pm.  You do have to be on the same flight as me!

Room only goes with the ticket or I'll release it through Dragonconrooms on Livejournal.  Trying to be fair.

Here is the first of 5 video walkthrough videos I took recently of the hotels.  Please check it out and let me know what I did right/wrong.  The Hyatt did not turn out as good as the other 4.  I will link them all when they are done.

Con-Voluted Presents:
3nd Annual Con Voluted "A.B.C." Room Party and Dragon*Con Kick off Party.
Thursday Night 9pm until ???
Hyatt Hotel - Room TBA

What is an A.B.C Party?? Anything But Clothes. To gain entrance to this exclusive party come dressed in Anything But Clothes. Garbage Bag, Duct Tape, Police tape, Bumper stickers, Playing Cards, Bandages, A Towel, A shower curtain.

It does not matter as long as it is NOT clothing. What can you cover (or not cover) your naughty bits with and still make it to the party? Creativity and last minute planning is highly encouraged. Wrap yourself in some cardboard and come on over.

This party has grown exponentially every year and this year we are planning our biggest and best A.B.C. Party yet. Last year over 500 people tried to get into this party. Lines were long and the rooms were crowded. This year we have secured one of the largest Suites at the Hyatt for this party. More Room, More Party!!

From 9-10 This party is for VIP`s Only.

From 10 till 12 this is an "ABC" party. You must be in an "ABC" outfit to get in.

From 12 on - Open to all. No ABC outfit required however the room WILL fill up and people in ABC outfits will be given priority entrance over those not.

CON-Voluted will be providing a DJ and Free Booze.

A limited number of VIP passes are available (VIP always gets in or at least to the very front of the line if the room is just too crowded). Details on how to get a VIP pass on the Facebook event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/476914849002776/

You do NOT have to have a VIP pass to attend. Everyone is welcome however once the room fills up, Priority entrance will be given to VIP pass holders and people in ABC outfits.

Is there any fee? Nope. Everyone is welcome.
Do I have to wear an ABC outfit? From 10-11pm yes. After 11, Nope.
BRING ID. We will have security checking ID`s at the door. No ID - No Entry. This Party is 21+ only!!

Please Invite all of your friends attending DragonCon to attend. Help us get the word out.

A few months ago, I wrote a short (and honestly, rather angry) post here asking that someone from Dragon*Con explain the continued use of the Passkey reservation system for booking hotel rooms.

There were a few people who gave some insight (and I thank them), but none of them were representatives of the the convention.

So please, [livejournal.com profile] dragonconoffice, can you or someone else with the authority to speak for Dragon Con / ACE Inc. please discuss the origins of how this service came to be used, why they've continued to use it after nightmare-like results, and if steps are being taken to remedy this extremely unpleasant issue for the future.

I love this con.  I started coming when I lived in North Carolina in 1997, continued when I lived in Atlanta, and now do my best to attend even though I now live in the Netherlands.  All said and done, I've only missed on *Con since I first began attending.

But while I (and I dare say, we) love Dragon*Con, I really believe we deserve answers on this topic.

Thanks and Best Regards,

-SSJ

I really wanna know who is responsible for the decision to use Passkey.

I'm not kidding around either.  I want someone in the D*C offices to answer this question.

Every year, it crashes.  I don't know who's paying these incompetent jerk, but it needs to stop and better solution found.
[identity profile] scifisambam.livejournal.com
So of course I was up at 830 ready to get my reservation and it sold out! Im so pissed off with passkey. Ive always been able to get a room. What are the chances that I will be able to get a canceled reservation at the Hyatt or Marriott before next years dcon if I check everyday? Anyone have success with grabbing a room in the past?
[identity profile] thanatos340.livejournal.com
With the latest Debacle/Disaster/Fiasco or whatever you want to call it with the Passkey/Hyatt reservations today, Hopefully the powers that be at D*C will finally realize that this system needs improvement. I though I would open a thread for constructive suggestion instead just another complaints thread.

My suggestions:
1. Allow people to book the following year at check out. Reward your loyal attendees.
2. Any rooms that are left after that, Make available to Eternal Members only on a certain date. (Encourage more Eternal memberships and add value to the newer higher prices)
3. And then have a date in October sometime that everyone else can book any rooms that are left and of course do NOT use passkey. They have consistently failed.

Dragon-Con is a Multi-Million dollar FOR PROFIT organization. Yes, It is staffed and run buy Volunteers but at the end of the day, it is a Business. A for profit business. It is time that it is ran like a business and fiasco`s like what happened today should be addressed.

Anyone else have any constructive suggestions on how to handle the room reservation Systems?

I have a question about suites at the host hotels?  My group of D*Con friends and I are attempting to find the easiest way for all of us to be in one place together, and we think a suite is the answer.

1) Availability:  are suites open to reservations at this early point for 2012?  Should I be prepared to fight tooth-and-nail as I do for in the "Marriott Room Rumble" each October, or is the demand lower for suites?

2) Previous Experiences:  have any of you out there among the Interweb had a suite for DCon?  If so, please share your experiences with me and let me know if you think it is worth it.

3) Which Hotel Reigns Supreme:  Should I consider one host hotel over the others for trying to get suite accomodations?  We are aiming for one among the Hilton/Hyatt/Marriott hotels.

Please, any information you can offer would help me out!  Good luck to all of you getting good rooms in 2012; may your reservations be held and your elevator bank empty.

I'd like to thank the Dragon*Con and hotel staff for the badge/card-key checking this year. I didn't see any problems like we had last year, and the staff checking the badges was for the most part polite but firm. I really appreciated it and fully enjoyed the vibe of the con this year.

Also props for the bar code scanning system for badge pickup. I waited in line for about an hour which was tons better than the last 7 or so years :)

Please do it again next year!

As much as I hate to dredge up this whole Hyatt debacle again, I was just wondering if everyone thinks its actually over or if anyone got a phone call as late as today to move them to the Omni?   Also, for those who didn't get the dreaded call, did you receive a recent confirmation email or something similar ?   I haven't received a call or email either way so I'm trying to figure out where I stand.

Come see old friends and make new ones during the annual CON*tourage “MEET & GREET” at Dragon*Con, Thursday night from 8 p.m.-10 p.m.

In addition to this being a great time to mingle, it’ll be a great opportunity for all of us to check out the brand-spanking newly renovated HYATT “Twenty-Two Storys” bar, formerly known as the “Parasol Bar,” before the place gets packed for the Labor Day weekend. Doesn't matter if you've partied with us before or not....come introduce yourself!

----> It’ll be easy to find CON*tourage…just look for the CON*tourage RED FLAG in the bar area and for people wearing "CON*tourage CRUE".

Also, this will be a PRIME TIME to pick up a RESERVED VIP or REGULAR PARTY PASS for the late-night CON*tourage Parties (for those that'll have them waiting.)

MEET & GREET Facebook Event Page: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=209287595779554

If you DON'T have a party pass already reserved.......we’ll be doing a “lottery-style” drawing for a limited amount of Regular Party Passes to be given away at 9:30pm, if you want to try and still get one (both parties are 21+ and passes are required for entry)

I got the news a couple days ago. Myself, and two other con-goers, have been moved to the Omni Hotel due to the renovations at the Hyatt.

In a bid to make the best out of this shit storm of inconvenience, I want to see how many others here are in the same boat.

So, post here if you were moved from the Hyatt. What are your plans for transportation? Any con plans changing as a result of this? Is there an Omni meet-up planned?

Also - perks of the move: A good chunk off of the cost of our rate this year ( we are saving about $200) - guaranteed room next year + same rate for the room in 2012.
[identity profile] chimera-13.livejournal.com
So the Hyatt is going from volunteers to go to the omni to moving you without any say to the Omni, anyone else getting phone calls like this?
