Please note that I did not write this, but I just found it on-line. The opinions, reviews, and directions are provided by the author of the guide, as I only go downtown abt once a year, so I'm hoping the info is accurate. I don't know who wrote it, as there doesn't seem to be a name attached.

Call ahead and check the info w/ the restaurants themselves.

Hi everyone:
As I said before I am working on a series of vlogs on youtube.  Every year I like to do a series of episodes at Dragon Con.  I have been promoting my blogs on twitter and facebook.  I am also starting to promote them on this communities because it revolves around the above.   So here is a link to my latest information on Dragon Con.

Boosting the signal from the dragonconrooms comm, this is abt a hotel changing hands!

"IMPORTANT: The Holiday Inn Express Buckhead has changed ownership and is now the Quality Suites Buckhead Village. All reservations made under former management will be honored. Unfortunately, during the conversion there was a problem with their reservations system. Because of this attendees will need to e-mail John Welch at johnw@wxhotels.com with their original reservation confirmation number and the dates of their arrival and departure to reconfirm their stay. Please take action immediately, as the hotel will open up available reservations in 7 - 10 days."

This was on the D*C FB page.

These tips are more specifically aimed at Dragoncon goers. :)

Again, if you have any tips, or spot anything that needs to be changed, please reply, and I will edit the post accordingly, and also give you credit. :)

Hi, I'm Bill Meeks and once again I'll be covering Dragon*Con for Bleeding Cool. Bleeding Cool is a Comics/TV/Film website that is in Technorati's top 5 entertainment sites and gets over 1,000,000 uniques per month.

I'm trying to raise some funds to improve the quality and turnaround time on the coverage by having a hotel room on site. I set up an Indiegogo to fund it here:

Indiegogo: Help Send Bleeding Cool to Dragon*Con

You can give whatever you'd like and you'll a 'Special Thanks' in all of our coverage as well as access to all the raw images we take (last year we took about 3,000 pictures) that you can use for whatever purposes you'd like. A little more will also net you some souvenir from the convention (or a beer on me if you are coming to the con).

We are also offering full sponsorships at $50 per day, which will get you an ad right at the front of a certain day's videos. We aim to put out 4-6 videos per days and our videos last year averaged around 2,000/video. Based on interviews we already have set up I expect our views to double this year if not triple.

So, thanks if anybody can help make our coverage even better this year, and we'll see you at the con!

Good morning!  This was my fourth year attending Dragon*Con and I had an amazing time.  That said, there were a couple of problems that (I would think) a convention this size could have solved after running for so many years.  That said, please take a moment to check out my review in three parts.  I am just curious to see if anyone else noticed the two key issues I bring up.

(note: it's in three parts to keep thoughts separate; it's not an epic long read.)

That - and there's a kick ass story for BSG fans regarding Edward James Olmos.

But as the forcast stands right now, we may have some pretty agreeable weather for Labor Day weekend in Atlanta.  Anyone who lives in the southeast knows that since the end of May, temps have been in the mid to high 90's with awful humidity. According to weather.com, the temperature is expected to be around the mid 80's, with little to no precipitation.  That still may seem a little warm to some, but compared to what it's been like here in Atlanta this past summer, that would be a much welcomed break. See you all in 5 days :)

The first set of my D*C tips is here:

Here's the second set, taken from all the great tips that I asked for, under the cut.

Thanks so much for all the tips, folks, and keep 'em coming! :)

One major rule that should assist you in most any situation is the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
In other words, politeness and common sense will go a long way to making your con experience more enjoyable, not just for you, but for everyone else. :)

Please do not STOP in the breezeways/skywalks, except for an emergency! If you see a friend heading in the other direction, do not STOP to chat! Turn and walk w/ them, or say something like, "Call me!". Do not STOP for photo opps! Go w/ the person you want to photograph, leave and get clear of the skywalk and THEN take the photo. Of course this applies in reverse, if you are the costumer. :) Above all, do not impede the traffic flow in the skywalks! At best, you will have dirty looks aimed in yr direction or get cussed out. At worst, someone may walk into you. And, don't run in the skywalks, or any time in a crowd, unless it is an emergency.

Note for 2013: the Walk of Fame is being moved to the Marquis Ballroom in the Marriott Marquis.

Also, the Dealers' Rooms are now at the Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart, Building 2, floors 1 and 2. This is located two blocks west of the Hyatt Regency Atlanta and one block north of the Westin Peachtree Plaza. Street level approach is to enter at the corner doors, walk toward the back, take the escalator up one floor and enter.

Again, please feel free to add tips! :)

We need a volunteer with a Vader costume for filming a nifty commercial for a special D*con event.  A local is a must, as we need to begin filming as soon as possible.

Vader costume needs to be passable on film for the actual Vader.
Needs to be able to slide down a slide, crawl through a tunnel (the tunnel will be large enough to accommodate your size) , and skip/run across a flat surface in slow-motion.
An ability to convey emotion, despite your face being frozen in an expressionless mask of Sith-Doom.

If you're interested, please contact me ASAP at megmog(dot)love(at)gmail(dot)com!

EDIT: If the crawling shot just isn't doable, we may scrap that one, but we really want Vader going down this slide.

Edit:  Spoke with 501st local CO, and we're getting things situated!  Woot!  Thanks for the link to their page!

[Re-edited to clarify]

Now that "The Shat" has been added to the guest list this year, I've been thinking more about how the con could use the name power of such guests as his for the benefit of some of the charitable organization Dragon*Con supports every year. Has there ever been any consideration amongst the powers-that-be as to find other ways to take full advantage of our yearly star power? For instance, maybe selling raffle tickets, with the winners (maybe 50-100) having intimate panels with some of the bigger guests? Or, maybe schedule a special panel in which tickets can be obtained at the charity auction?..You get the idea...

Just this year alone, I can't imagine the amount of money the Alzheimer's Association would get if we--for instance--raffled off a small, intimate evening panel with Shatner and Nimoy, or do a special panel with "The Captains" (Mulgrew, Stewart, Shatner)...

Or, in order to encourage participation, maybe give a raffle ticket to every person who donates blood?

I honestly don't know entirely how the charity aspect of the convention is organized, how supportive the guests are as far as using their name to generate income for others (or if the money from their appearance already goes to charity), etc., but I see some great possibilities opening up this year and in the future (especially if we can continue the trend we've been having the past few years as far as "big-ticket" guests)...

Any thoughts; insights? Anybody involved with the charity drives that could give two cents?

I know some people are coming into the city a little b4 the Con and staying a bit after. Thought this might be helpful. More detailed addresses can be found at the interactive link provided below. Most of these are those events the hotel concierge won't know about. (which are usually the best kind:))

To whom this applies, welcome and I hope you enjoy our city.
